Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area

    Bad experience

Stayed here on Saturday night of July 4th weekend. Arrived after hours without a reservation. No information on how to self register or which campsites were available even though some sites are first come first served. Found an open site, set up and went to bed. There were fireworks (prohibited) and the campsite next to us played loud music but it was before quiet hours so we didn’t mind. The loud music turned into a party with alcohol (prohibited) and the loud music continued way past quiet hours. No campground host or personnel did anything about the noise/party. At 12:30am we moved campsites because we couldn’t sleep. We saw sheriff patrolling the campground - don’t know why they didn’t quiet the offenders.

The campground is large with many sites so the probability of inconsiderate people is higher. I won’t be returning.

    Charles Mill Lake Park Campground

    mixed feelings 😕

Upon arrival friendly staff greeted us. Bath houses are clean and well maintained.  Our site was not clean and ready.  Picnic table looked like it was not cleaned since last season and the fire pit was full of rubbish.  Had campers behind us who played music so loud we couldn't hear each other talk.  I asked the gentleman to please turn it down and they did slightly. Another camper also asked them to turn it down and again it was very slight.  Well after midnight music continued.  No park ranger made rounds until Saturday morning and throughout the day.

The lake is gorgeous this weekend and we enjoyed riding bikes and walking the park.

May be back to try again.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area

Busy, but not too bad :)

Stayed a night here near the end of June after a rainstorm. A few quick highlights:

    1. Because there are a ton of sites, you can expect one thing: variety. There are plenty of aluminum Airstream, Winnebago, fifth wheels, pull behind, and tents. You can expect to find a little bit of everything here.

    2. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, Mill Creek might not be for you. Most of the sites seem to be typically pretty packed. Generally, people respect quiet hours, but with sites so close to each other, noise is a factor.

    3. The surrounding area seems to be pretty spartan. There’s a grocery store about 10 minutes up the road, a bait shop about three minutes away, and a drive-through (with some light groceries and drinks) about two away. Nice enough folks in all three :) Super helpful and accommodating.

    4. Berlin lake seems to be the big draw. Plenty of boats, jet ski‘s, kayaks, and swimming opportunities. If that’s your thing, plan accordingly and you won’t be disappointed.

Overall, Mill Creek is a pretty solid site within driving distance of Akron / Canton. I’ll be back, with adjusted expectations.

Quick tip: My particular site was pretty muddy upon arrival. Granted, that was after a bit of rain. But it wouldn’t hurt to bring an extra pair of shoes ;-)

    Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

Good location but expensive for what you get

Pros: closest camping to Cuyahoga National Park, safe, professional (labeled envelopes with information at check-in and wood delivery) Cons: bathrooms weren’t cleaned or restocked as frequently as necessary (overflowing trash cans, TP empty by 5 pm), shower curtains/showers had mildew, truly dirty bathroom floors, had to drive 1/4 mile to the one trash dumpster, unlevel sites

One more thing: there’s a significant raccoon and skunk problem along the section with water/electric back-in spots. We got to know our neighbors very well over two nights as we helped each other fend off multiple raids by entire families of raccoons and one very large, very bold skunk. We lost two camping chairs to the skunks because there was no way to fight them off once they moved into our shelter and, even without spraying, skunks tend to leave a scent behind on anything that’s fabric.

The price is okay in that it is the closest to the national park and the next closest campgrounds are the state park campgrounds (West Branch and Mosquito Lake), but the state park grounds are MUCH nicer and about $15 less per night. If you have the time to drive and can plan your trip months in advance to get reservations, West Branch is a better alternative.

    West Branch State Park Campground

    A ++

Always a great time at West Branch. The staff are very friendly and care a great deal about the quality of everyone's experience - they inspect and clean each site after the sites are vacated. The quiet hours are truly quiet, the bathrooms are very clean and fresh. Decided to rent a pontoon for the day - the boats were also very clean and well kept - they also have the option of an inner tube or jet skis if you want to rent those as well!

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

Great stay at an amusement park

This property is as close as you can get to cedar point amusement park. Tons of amenities, 5 star all the way. Shuttle service to the gates (although it is walkable too) pool area, beach, paved sites, some have lake views. Ultimate patio sites have their own table, chairs and fire pits as well. Well stocked camp store open 24 hours and very clean bath houses. Be sure to book as far in advance as possible as they fill up quick.

What campers like

Private campsites: Some campers value separation between sites. At Mohican Adventures Campground, "We tent camped and had a private spot in the woods which we loved. The campgrounds covers all the basics."

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathrooms and showers are frequently mentioned in positive reviews. At Countryside Campground, visitors appreciated that "the bathrooms were clean, the showers we nice and the pool was well kept. Each site comes with a fire ring and picnic table both in good condition."

Seasonal activities: Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA organizes regular events for campers. "Every night we were visited by raccoons," one camper noted, adding that "the pool was so nice it wasn't too crowded and the view over looking the 'lake' was so pretty."

Water views: Multiple campgrounds offer lakefront or waterfront sites. A camper at West Branch shared, "We're at site 160. No electricity, no hook ups, but a HUGE lakefront site. We're in a self contained RV so it's not a problem for us. Beach is right next door too!"

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the area have uneven terrain. At West Branch State Park, a camper reported, "We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches. The jack was down as low as it would go and we were still off by 1.5 inches."

Seasonal operation: Most campgrounds close during colder months. Countryside Campground operates from "May 1 to October 30," while American Wilderness has a season from "April 28 to October 15."

Reservation requirements: Popular sites book quickly, especially waterfront options. At Charles Mill Lake Park Campground, campers recommend reservations, as one noted, "It's opposite the main campground up the mile about .5 mile. The sites are not as modern but have more trees and natural beauty."

Cell service limitations: Some parks have poor connectivity. At Mohican State Park, a visitor mentioned, "No cell service with Verizon at this park," which affects planning and navigation.

Tips for camping with families

Playgrounds and recreation: Multiple campgrounds have dedicated children's areas. At Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA, "The game room was small but the kids loved it," and the campground has "fun little raccoon hand prints all over."

Wildlife viewing: Kids enjoy natural encounters at several parks. At Charles Mill Lake, campers reported wildlife sightings: "We had deer that would come over every morning," providing natural educational opportunities.

Budget considerations: Family activities can add costs beyond camping fees. A visitor to Mohican Adventures noted, "The price includes 2 campers per site and anyone extra is $10 a night. We've never encountered that and seems excessive."

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Choose sites based on privacy needs. At Mohican Adventures, an RVer commented, "Many sites were set up as buddy sites so we had to share our outside space with our neighbors. It was tight and awkward."

Hookup availability: Water and electric service varies by campground and site. At Countryside Campground, "We stayed here in a 29'TT, 3 kids, 2 dogs. Well kept smaller campground," with full hookups available.

Access challenges: Some campgrounds have narrow roads and tight turns. At Charles Mill Lake, a camper noted, "Roads are narrow & hilly," making navigation difficult for larger rigs.

Seasonal discounts: Off-peak camping offers better value. "We camped here off season and had the place to ourselves," reported an RVer at Mohican Adventures, adding that "The staff is friendly and the indoor pool and shower houses were amazing."
