The Great Outdoors RV Resort

Gravel sites with full hookups accommodate RVs up to 60 feet at this private resort outside Franklin, North Carolina. The campground sits close to a main highway, and several reviewers mention consistent road noise from their sites. Staff assistance with parking helps newcomers navigate the level, spacious sites that come with picnic tables and fire cauldrons available upon request.

Clean bathrooms and showers earn consistent praise from visitors, along with well-maintained grounds throughout the property. A small on-site store provides basic supplies, while a recreation building houses laundry facilities. The seasonal pool closes during cooler months, and a pet corral gives dogs space to exercise. Angie G. notes the campground requires arrival before 5 PM, which "makes it difficult if you don't have Friday off or have to arrive later than 5."

The location serves as a staging point for day trips to waterfalls, Cherokee, and Maggie Valley. Campers seeking additional options in the area can explore campgrounds around Franklin. Sites position close together, creating a more social atmosphere typical of RV parks rather than dispersed camping. The combination of full amenities and highway proximity makes this spot work well for travelers prioritizing convenience over seclusion.

Great Basecamp for RVs

We stayed at this RV park from Friday to Sunday after Thanksgiving (they were closed Thanksgiving). It’s a nice RV park, not really a campground. The bathrooms and showers are nice and clean. The pet corral was enjoyed by my dog. The staff is very nice and helpful. The pool was closed for off season and there is a Rec Bldg which we didn’t try out but has laundry facilities inside of it. The sites are gravel and neatly done with a off set graveled area with a picnic table. Fire cauldrons are complimentary with a bundle of wood purchase. (It’s quite a bit of wood). Luckily for us we were off that day. The only issue I have is that if you are not there by 5pm, they will not park you so don’t plan to arrive after work on a Friday and hope to spend the long weekend. It makes it difficult if you don’t have Friday off or have to arrive later than 5. Needless to say, we enjoyed the peace and quiet and clean air here and will visit again. It is located off the main highway, however, the road noise is really not an issue at all. It’s a great Basecamp to visit all the outdoor things in the area or just drive up to the Smokies.

Nice

Not the best place we’ve stayed...not the worst either. Pros: staff and owners are awesome, grounds are clean and well-maintained. Sites are fine (gravel, level, full hookups, spacious, fire ring/firewood on request, picnic table). Cons: road noise from highway is constant (video attached) and location (a tow vehicle is a must).

Overpriced but clean

The first review by ‘Polly’ is the owner lol but still, overall a nice campsite. It is overpriced IMO but if you use the amenities maybe not so bad. We stayed in site 6 - supposedly a premium site with shade, but there was plenty of major road noise from our site. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Overall just comes down to what you’re looking for.

Great RV Resort Franklin N.C

We are new to the RV life style. We traveled to Franklin N.C. A couple weeks ago and stayed at Grear Outdoors RV Resort. We were greeted by gracious hosts who were also the owners. Polly was great explaining the rules and amenities to us. Mike arrived and escorted us to our site and helped us me park. The park was very well organized and maintained as Mike continues to work throughout our entire visit. Questions and concerns were answered immediately. This was our first visit but not our last. 5 Stars!!
