Vista Linda Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis at $20 per night, with sites that accommodate RVs up to 40 feet along paved pads. The Forest Service facility sits alongside Highway 4 between the road and the Jemez River, roughly 40 minutes north of Albuquerque and three miles south of the village of Jemez Springs.
The campground's 14 sites spread out along the canyon floor, with cottonwood trees providing shade and several sites featuring covered pavilions over picnic tables. AC L. found site 12 had "a short path down to a private area at the Jemez River" where they left chairs for frequent visits. The river runs more like a creek through the property, creating background sound that campers consistently mention in reviews. Site spacing allows privacy between neighbors, and vault toilets receive high marks for cleanliness.
Fishing opportunities exist in the Jemez River, which flows directly behind many campsites. The location serves as a base for exploring nearby attractions including Jemez Hot Springs a few miles north and the Gilman Tunnels to the south. Water pumps near the restrooms provide potable water, though the campground lacks electrical hookups and showers. Cell service proves spotty for most carriers, though Starlink works well from sites set back from trees.
Access requires navigating what reviewers describe as rough road conditions, particularly after weather events. The campground typically has a host who provides area information and maintains the facility. "Walking along the Jemez River was a great evening activity," notes Zachary H., highlighting the property's main draw. The facility operates year-round and fills regularly during peak seasons, making early arrival advisable for securing preferred sites near the water.
