You can see Mexico from here

The traffic going down the highway to Puerto. Palermo is much more busy than I had expected. Watch out for the rattlesnakes. A friend of mine had just sent me a picture of the skin of a 20 footer on the wall in a shop not far from here. One local told me the rattlesnakes were quite populous this year. But I never expected to see one with the overnight temps in the 40s in the High barely reaching 70.

Nice over night spot

The camp ground, is down the road from Banjercito Mexico, nice place to visit. Camp sites are reservation only, except for 3 FCFS sites. The bathrooms, showers and dump station are closed until further notice. Nice museum and staff. Not much to see in Columbus, museum, restaurant and gas.

Great desert park

This park is fantastic. The campground is very well maintained and the bathroom/showers were some of the nicest we’ve been to. The museum in the park is very well done and informative. The only nit I would pick is that the electrical outlets were a bit far. My cord barely reached. Would definitely recommend visiting the Mexican border town of Puerto Palomas. Be sure to ask at the museum for a coupon for a free margarita for the table at the Pink Store.

A gem of a State Park just north of the border

Pancho Villa State Park, named after Mexican General Pancho Villa, who attacked Columbus, NM, and once occupied by Camp Furlong, which was the staging grounds of 10,000 troops who pursued Villa in Mexico.  This park is well maintained, as well as the bathrooms!  Most sites have water and electric, and also level.  There is much to see and do in Pancho Villa, and Columbus, NM.  The campground has several old buildings, and a museum on the grounds  The US and Mexican border is about 1.5 miles south of the park. If you have a passport, be sure visit the Pink Store in Palomas, MX  We'd stay again!

Panch Villa State Park, NM

April 15-18, 2019. We had a good time here. We enjoyed the museum located in the park. The restrooms were very clean. Elevation 4,073. We had fun visiting Irma at her restaurant. New Mexico has a great state park pass. At the time it was $225 for a 1-year pass which covers campsite fees. If you chose to use water and electric, it costs $4 per day.

State park camping

We love this state park campground. RV and tent camping. Water and electric. Reservation sights are full hookup. No cabins. Always nearly full in the winter; always nearly empty in summer. It’s hot!! Three miles from the Mexican border and excellent margaritas!!
