Elephant Rock Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Fishing access on the Red River draws anglers to Elephant Rock Campground, a drive-in site within Carson National Forest that runs from May through September. Sites sit close to the main road, and campers have noted that traffic noise carries through the night, though choosing a site farther from the road helps. Tall pines provide shade across the campground. Verizon users can expect one to two bars of cell service. RVs up to 44 feet are welcome, and the site includes drinking water, toilets, picnic tables, and firewood. Reservations are available, and pets are permitted. Anglers and road-trippers looking for campgrounds near Red River or nearby Carson National Forest Fawn Lakes will find Elephant Rock a functional base for a night or more.

Fawn Lakes, Red River NM

Very nice camphost and quiet sites. This one is just across the path from the river. $30/night, a bit of highway noise but not bad. About 50/50 shade/sun

Convenient stop and nice campground

The campground was great and conveniently located near Red River NM. There are plenty of tall pine trees for shade. We camped as far from the main road as possible, and the noise was minimal. We had one to two bars of cell service on Verizon.

Elephant Rock Campground

Stayed for a night while on a road trip. The camp sites were clean, and the host was friendly, the issue for me was that the campground (and area campgrounds) are settled right next to the road. You can see and hear cars during all hours of the night...other than that, the site was fine.
