Within Carson National Forest, Cruces Basin Campground provides established camping near Tres Piedras. The US Forest Service manages this campground, which sits in open terrain alongside a creek. The setting gives campers access to flowing water and unobstructed views across the surrounding landscape. Located roughly 17 miles from places to camp near Chama, the campground serves as a base for exploring the forest's northern reaches. Several other Forest Service campgrounds operate within a few miles, including Upper Lagunitas and Lower Lagunitas to the southwest. The open layout works well for RVs and tent campers who prefer less dense tree cover.
