Managed by the Bureau of Land Management within the camping spots near BLM Land — Bristlecone Field Office, Gravel Pit BLM Dispersed Campsite is exactly what its name suggests: a flat, open gravel lot a few miles from Great Basin National Park. The site sits on an active working gravel pit, which means BLM operations may start up as early as 8am on weekday mornings. Free to use and accessible to large rigs, it provides enough room to maneuver and spread out, making it a reasonable overnight stop for groups or anyone traveling with an oversized vehicle.
No facilities exist here whatsoever. As erin K. puts it, "bring your own water, electricity and restroom solutions." The terrain is level and the access roads have been reported in good condition, though there is no highway shoulder before the entrance, so pulling over to assess road or flood conditions before committing to the turn is not possible. AT&T cell service has worked well for multiple visitors.
Views from the site include snow-capped mountains on the horizon. The surrounding area is sparsely populated, and campers frequently arrive to find the lot entirely empty. Snake Creek Road BLM Dispersed near Great Basin NP is another nearby option for those wanting a different setting in the same corridor. Come prepared with all supplies, as the nearest services are in Baker, just a few miles up the road.
