Chilvers Park

I stay here every year on my way to camp in South Dakota. There is a small grocery store downtown (a 5 minute walk from the park) as well as a wonderful coffee shop located in a historic building. There is a Subway restaurant across the street from the park.

There is a water hookup, as well as 20/30/50 amp electric service. There are bathrooms with flush toilets in this park. Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are terrible. 

This park is located right next to a school, so it can be a little noisy in the mornings and when school gets out.

I had 5 bars of Verizon signal here; there is a Verizon tower located in this town.

Nice small town with about 6 sites. Level concrete pad. Water and electric. Bathroom is dirty. Big park and playground.

So we stopped at the gas station across from this gem! Again, if boondocking is your thing, Nebraska is on target. Apparently most of the city parks allow up to 3 days camping at their city parks. It looks like showers are in the bathrooms but we didn’t go in. The last city park did have showers but hadn’t been used or cleaned in a while.

These small towns in NE have the right idea with these free community campgrounds. It’s just the reason we need to stop and visit local businesses and explore a town we would normally just pass through.

This camp is nothing fancy but very nice. It’s a short walk to the Mainstreet shops and the park offers a great quiet place to relax after a long day behind the wheel.

This park is right of Highway 30 and if you are passing through and want power and water for a few days this should be your stop. unlike other city parks, this one has a burn pit.

I would assume that campers would have use of the shower facility at the pool, but if not, you could just spend a few bucks and swim all day and shower at the end.

Grocery store downtown had great steak prices and good price on ice.
