Rough road access defines the Upper Cherry Creek experience before camp is even set up. The mountainside route into this dispersed site in Gallatin National Forest has rutted, rocky sections that have given pause to more than a few drivers, though reviewers confirm a Chevy Equinox and an F350 with a camper have both made it up without incident. High clearance helps, especially for anyone towing a trailer. The site sits tucked among dense firs and pines, with slivers of views toward West Yellowstone visible through the trees from its hillside position.
The established site includes a fire ring and some shade cover. No other amenities are present. Two bars of Verizon service have been reported, which is worth knowing for those who need a connection. Noise tends to stay low in the mornings, though dirt bikes and ATVs have been heard in the area around mid-morning on some visits. Wildlife sightings have come up in multiple reviews. "Me and my girlfriend saw some cool wildlife here as well," notes Jonah T.
The mapped site can fill up, but a secondary spot a short distance up the road, marked by a well-used fire ring, has worked as a fallback for at least one group. Pets are welcome. Campers who want a more developed setting can look into West Fork Denny Creek to the south, or browse camping near West Yellowstone for a wider range of options in the area.
