Not all sites are big rig friendly, even if you technically fit

We stayed in Many Glacier campground to the north before coming south to Two Medicine for two nights. Heads up: when we were on 89, there was a sign at the entrance to 49 saying that vehicles over 21 ft not advisable (or not permitted? Don’t remember). We looked at google maps and decided that 49 between 89 and the campground did look pretty winding and decided to add the 15 miles to our trip by going out to Browning, down 2, then back up 49 from the south. Not a huge deal, but it kind of sucked and would have been nice to know this in advance.

We stayed in 49C our first night and boy is that a terrible site for RVs. The sites are all these pull through curves, and some are on these gnarly hills. 49 was not only on one such a hill, but it was narrow as well, so we had a really hard time fitting. Luckily we had spent the day along Going To The Sun Road and had arrived fairly late and just needed to sleep and move to our next site the next morning. Day two we stayed in 83 B and this site was nice and flat and open, with a view of the lake. Basically, if you’re in an rv and flatness is important to you, I’d try and get a site along the edges. Those sites were flatter and wider than the sites in the center of the campground. No cell service anywhere here. Nice hikes directly from the campground. There are trash bins and plastic bottle and aluminum can recycling bins. Out on the road (not in the campground) there was also a propane cylinder recycling bin. At the St Mary’s visitor center there’s a standalone glass recycling bin in the parking lot. Dump station and potable water fill at the entrance to the campground. The first day we arrived there were sheep literally all over the campground, and we never saw them again after that.

My favorite campground

First come first serve. This was my favorite campground. From the different campsites to the sun setting over the lake, to the people I met. I've never seen so many camp cats on leashes. I think I counted 7 cats out with their owners enjoying nature. Plenty of restrooms, and lots of different loops to choose from.

At the time of my visit, there was heavy black bear activity. No soft side camping aloud. You had to stay within reach of your food to be able to quickly grab it and retreat into your vehicle if the black bear was in camp. There was a dead moose on the other side of the lake, so the hiking trail was closed. We did see the bear along the trees, but it didn't come into camp that night.

The views!

The views are gorgeous! It was a great last minute choice after not being able to explore going to the sun road. Reservations were fully booked but so glad I took a chance with two medicine. Was able to take a dip in the lake. One of the trails were off limits due to bear activity. The site was clean, the bathrooms were also clean, a bit outdated but still functional. I strolled in around 9:30 am and there were plenty of spots to choose from. They are first come first served. The rangers were really friendly, the camp host was knowledgeable.

Good for last minute plans!

After not getting a reservation to Going to the Sun Road for the first day of our trip, we decided to go to the East Side of Glacier for the day where no reservations are required. We did a little research before heading to the campground for the night. It historically doesn’t fill all the way up. You cannot reserve a spot online— it’s just first come, first serve. We pulled in around 7:00pm and there were still quite a few spots. (For reference.. this was a Friday night on the last week of a July— so during busy season.) $20/night. Bathrooms are available. The lake is BEAUTIFUL. I highly recommend watching the sunrise from the benches around the lake. A colder night because of the proximity to water but a beautiful site. Would absolutely recommend to everyone visiting Glacier!!

Amazing views!

The views, oh my goodness, the views@ Arrived mid afternoon and found a site, there were a ton!to pick from! We had a nice view, close to bathroom and bear box. Only downside was that it rained on our first night and we woke up to our tent in about 3 inches of water. Thankfully there were sites still open so we could move. If there is rain in the forecast pick carefully. Was able to fish in the lake and it was convenient to have the store close by.

Picturesque Views

We camped here for 1 week at the end of July. The views were absolutely breathtaking. We rolled in around 5:30 AM and waited to find a good site where someone was packing up. We finally found a location close to the water so the kids could easily access and cool off. It was right next to a parking area for the water but it really wasn’t too bad. The campsite was fairly private. We were there mostly at night anyways and everyone seemed to respect the quiet time hours. Would definitely camp here again.

Quiet and low key

Compared to other campgrounds in Glacier, Two Med is quiet and low key. Definitely more of a chill vibe, read: no one here was partying loudly. We stayed in a reserved site that is designated back country as we finished a back country trip with the last night at Two Medicine, where we parked our car. Many people who use this site are not on a loop, but on the many are on the CDT and use this as a great place to bathe (the lake) and see a few humans. This site is tent only, designated with wood pilings and has small rocks/sand as the floor - it was very hard as no rain lately and difficult to get in tent stakes. It fits a large tent - maybe 12'? We used our car as our 'bear box', be very bear aware here and use clean camping. Black and Brown bears can frequent the area. Bathrooms clean, no showers (but there is that nice lake!) The boat ride across the lake is worth it for the commentary and views, make advance reservations.

Beautiful Location and great campsites!

This campground has 3 separate loops. The loop we stayed at did not allow generators. This was campground is walking distance to the Ranger Station, Camp Store and best of all the lake. The sites are very roomy and included fire pits and picnic tables. The rangers do patrol the campground often to ensure guests are practicing best bear safe practices. You will see and possibly encounter wildlife. This is a great campground that allows you to visit some of the“less” busy parts of the park with ease.

Great introduction to Glacier National Park

There are fewer tourists in this part of the park, so you can really enjoy your time in the wilderness. We spent the first part of the day visiting waterfalls and hiking a couple of trails, we didn't run into too many people. Numerous day hiking options and a great way to start enjoying GNP!

Campsites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The campground is mostly shaded by trees which offer a bit of privacy. Flush toilets and access to running water is available. There is a Chalet that was built by the railway that now serves as a camp store and gift shop. Very “rustic” camping but it’s totally worth it.

Views to Die For!

This is a remote campground on the east side of Glacier Park. The sites are tight, and if you have a large RV, it may be tricky to get in and out. The campground usually fills by about 8:30 in the mornings, so be aware and be there early. You'll meet folks from around the country, and the hiking opportunities are some of the finest in the park. Even just strolling around the camp area and Two Med Lake, you'll be happy you came!

Great location and stunning views!

Absolutely stunning campground on Two Medicine Lake. It’s first come, first serve and we were able to score a site in July midweek. The ranger was super helpful and informative and the campground host couldn’t have been nicer. She came around in the evening to remind people to keep everything safe from bears and told us all about the area and her love for it. Many campsites sit along the water with views of the mountains, however ours was more inclosed in the trees which was nice and private. We neglected to buy firewood in time and the hosts just gave us some from a pile of firewood left behind by prior campers. One of our best camp spots to date, and the bathrooms were a bit rustic but clean and I was happy there were numerous little bathrooms so you were never too far!

Two Medicine

One of my favorite places to camp because it’s secluded off on East Glacier and has about 30-50 campsites available. Again, summer is crowded but worth it to stay here a few nights. The hiking is challenging with Dawson/Pitamakan Pass which is around 20-22 miles round trip but one of the best views being up at the top of all the mountains. Bear frequenting so bring bear spray!

A less crowded area of Glacier.

Two Medicine was the first campground we went to in Glacier. It is on the southeastern part of the park and there were significantly less people there. There are plenty of campsites and there is a good amount of privacy for each site. The camp store there is great too!

The best part of this place is there were plenty of fantastic trails leaving right from the campground. I highly recommend the hike to No Name Lake.

Just Right (without a car)

I'm really glad we heard about this place. The views are gorgeous - quintessential mountains and lakes. We did the Sun Tours bus from East Glacier after getting off the train, which let us see all the touristy views north of here. Then we took the Glacier Park Inc shuttle from the lodge to this campground.

We wanted to be in the backcountry, but forest fires didn't allow for that. We camped in site 40, which is the backpacker/biker site. The ranger said it's rarely used. It's kind of a free for all site, in that it's never considered "taken" - you just add more tents as necessary. However, it's small. We had two small tents and pretty much took the whole space. A couple of bicyclists arrived later and had to make do.

The tent spots aren't quite level, but I've seen worse. The ground is very rocky, so definitely bring your sleeping mat.

There's potable water and a bear-bin for storing food near every site.

We hiked around Two Medicine Lake, and having lunch at Twin Falls made the 8 mile loop well worthwhile. The trail is mostly easy (rocky in some areas). My family (the youngest is 10) enjoyed it, but it was about as far as we would want to hike in a day.

If we were doing it again, we'd try to reserve a larger spot even though we didn't have a car. I'm glad they had the site we stayed in though!

Epic trip

Took my brother to Montana for the first time. We did an epic road trip. 5000 miles all over the west. Stayed in two medicine camp ground for a week. We hit some great trails out there. Twin falls, was a nice hike. I haven't been back there in 15 years. So much fun. Planning another trip there soon. The hike to hidden lake was a good hike. We're not in the best shape but we made it and it was so worth the trip. Had a little encounter with a black bear down by the lake but nothing to bad. Looking forward to the next trip.

SiteDont remember the site number but it was on the east side of the lake.

5 stars, beautiful place to stay!!

Two Medicene Campround, which is located in the Glacier National Park is a beautiful place to stay! You honestly can't go wrong with any campgrounds in the National Park. I would say this campground is definitely less busy then other sites in the Galcier park. I went mid August and didn't have a problem finding a campsite. You can't call ahead of time and make reservations, it's on a first come first serve basis. I got to the campground around noon and was able to get a great spot, site 87 which was tucked away. I had enough space and privacy which is always nice! I love this place because it has great views, scenery and awesome hikes. I also loved that the ranger on site was helpful and knowledgable. He directed me to a few great hikes! The hikes were awesome, and had some pretty great views! My favorite hike was Cobalt Lake, it was about 6 miles total and definitely worth it. The campground itself was clean and well kept. The campsites do have a picnic table and fire ring. Just FYI, they do not have showers available but they do have flush toilets and running water. If you are only staying a few nights, a shower isn't really needed :). I would definitely recommend coming and staying here, it's a great place to stay!

Beautiful campground

The campground is very beautiful located by Two Medicine Lake and between large mountains. There are many campsites which offer different views and allow for different types of campers (rvs, cars, walk-ins). The sites had water spickets, dumpsters, and bear boxes near by, but not all sites have them. If you use a tent be prepared to not put your anchoring spikes in to hold the tent down as there is a thick rock layer just under a thin layer of dirt. Another downside to the campground is the road to get there is very rough. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. There was a park ranger who held camp gatherings which was a fun option to have. The wife and I really enjoyed utilizing the numerous trails around the campground. One of our favorite campgrounds we have gone to!

You may actually find a spot after 10 am!

Glacier National Park campgrounds fill up quickly -- but if you're coming to the park from the south east -- you might have a chance to get a site at the lovely Two Medicine. The entrance to the Two Medicine section of Glacier is separate from the main entrance, and it seems that many people miss this option until all the other options run out.

The campground is beautiful, and sits right on the lake with two mountains as a backdrop. Sites are spacious, however, there isn't a lot of privacy between sites. Some sites connect to others- which can be a bonus if you're traveling in a larger group.

We camped at Sites #72 & #73 -- two connecting sites one row back from the lake view. Each site had a fire pit, picnic table, tent pad, and access to toilets without a long walk. This site pair also had a nice trio of trees that we were able to use for our 3 hammocks (and hang them with a lake view).

To access other portions of the park like Going to the Sun road, the drive back out to the main entrance was an extra 10-12 miles. At the campground there is access to a number of short to medium hikes as well as a ranger station and lake tours by boat.

Two Medicine is Great Camping

I normally prefer backcountry sites when I'm in our National Parks to get the best experience possibly, but Two Medicine Campground is as good a campground as you can get. With plenty of woods surrounding each site, you get the feeling of privacy and the views can't be beat. From mountains to lakes the scenes surrounding the campsites are amazing. There is also a general store that is a log cabin and a great spot to get supplies and souvenirs. There was also a wonderful ranger program. One of our favorites that we have ever seen and we have been to a lot. In my opinion this is the best campground in Glacier National Park.
