Great quiet campground

6 sites, each has a picnic table and a bear proof container. You can hear the West Fork of the Stillwater River from each site and trails lead down to the river. The trailhead to other hikes is 1 mile up the road. Rough road which cuts down on traffic!

The nearby West Fork of the Stillwater River provides a natural water source, though visitors should bring their own drinking water or be prepared to treat river water.

Where is Initial Creek Campground located and how do I get there?

Initial Creek Campground is located along the West Fork of the Stillwater River in Montana. Access requires traveling on a rough road that leads to the campground area. The trailhead for additional hiking trails is located approximately 1 mile up the road from the campground. The rugged road conditions actually help limit traffic to the area, creating a more peaceful camping experience. Be prepared for primitive road conditions by using a vehicle with decent clearance.

Do I need reservations for Initial Creek Campground?

Initial Creek Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system. With only 6 sites available, arriving early is recommended, especially during peak camping seasons and weekends. Contact the local ranger district for current information about capacity and any temporary closures before your trip.

What activities can I enjoy at Initial Creek Campground?

The West Fork of the Stillwater River runs near the campground, offering excellent opportunities for fishing, wading, and enjoying the peaceful sounds of flowing water. Trails from the campsites lead directly down to the river for easy access. Hiking is a popular activity, with a trailhead located just 1 mile up the road that connects to additional trail networks. Wildlife watching, photography, and stargazing are also rewarding activities in this secluded natural setting.
