Chippy Park

River access draws many campers to Chippy Park, where five sites sit along Boulder River within Gallatin National Forest. Four of the sites line the riverbank directly, while one sits slightly uphill from the water. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations required.

Sites are separated by trees, creating natural privacy between neighbors. "Tucked down below the main dirt road along the river among the trees," as Brodie B. describes it, the campground stays shaded and cool during summer months. The river provides entertainment during daylight hours but generates constant noise throughout the night that some find disruptive to sleep.

Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with shared vault toilets available. Campers must pack out all trash since no collection service operates here. The area supports RVs up to 40 feet, though access requires navigating a dirt road. Bug populations run high near the water, particularly during warmer months. Hiking trails from the campground lead to elevated viewpoints for those willing to walk several miles uphill.

Weekend availability becomes limited during summer, while midweek visits typically offer better site selection. The $5 nightly fee makes this one of the more affordable camping spots around Gallatin National Forest for those seeking direct river access.
