Nine sites sit along the banks of Hebgen Lake in Gallatin National Forest, and getting there requires navigating several miles of washboard USFS road after the pavement ends. The road is manageable for most vehicles, but campers with longer rigs should know that the turnaround loop accommodates rigs up to 35 feet without difficulty, though Roy S. notes "a skilled driver can maneuver the stump challenge" in something larger. Two more primitive sites sit along the access road before the main loop, offering more separation from neighbors but no lake views.
The main sites face Hebgen Lake directly, with a boat ramp providing water access for paddlers and anglers. Bugs are a consistent issue, particularly in early season, so pack repellent regardless of when you visit. Bear activity is frequent enough that the campground has bear-protected food storage containers positioned near each pair of sites, and an information board near the vault toilet posts current alerts and bear education materials. Cell service runs at 3 or more bars on both AT&T and Verizon.
Fees run $23 per night for up to eight people and one vehicle, paid on arrival by cash envelope or QR code scan. The vault toilet has drawn consistently positive comments for cleanliness. Campers looking at campgrounds near West Yellowstone will find this one among the more water-accessible options in the area. Nearby alternatives include Old Rumbaugh Campground and Lonesomehursrt Campground and Boat Launch for different site configurations along the same corridor. Weekdays in early May see very light use; expect more competition for sites through the peak of summer.
