Very Convienently located to National Park, Limited Campground Area

One of the cheapest options if looking for a formal campground with shore power. Water not at site but there is potable water spigots around the campground in a few spots.

We are in spot 6 which is not on the water. It was in full sun and no shade at all until late afternoon. The problem with not having a spot on the water is not being able to access the water anywhere but the boat dock when the campground is full. There is no paths or trails in the campground so exploration is very limited to doing laps around the road. Luckily when a campsite cleared out on the water, we would use that time to go put our feet in and let our dog swim. Site 6 is not very private but is large space, just feels like you are in between other large trailers. See my photos for examples.

Signs over at the boat dock warn of toxic algae blooms and not to swim. Found this out after swimming at one of the campsites and not sure how worried we should be or if only confined in the boat launch area.

We are here mid July and about 88 degree high days. The mosquitos are in full force here throughout the day and evening. Only high deet based repellents seem to work and has limited our time outside.

T-Mobile 5G UC signal here which has made working when I need to very convenient too.

Camping West Yellowstone Area

Gallatin National Forrest Campground on Hebgan Lake, South Fork Arm. Also has a boat launch to Lake. Smaller Forrest Service campground with electric at sites, no water at sites, but does have a few water faucets throughout campground. Sites are nice spaced around lake and trees, so some shade to full sun sites. A little space between most sites, picnic tables and fire rings. Approximately 8 miles from west Yellowstone entrance.

Beautiful campground with great hosts

We stayed at Lonesomehurst for two nights at the start of July. The campground is in a beautiful location right on the lake, however be aware that this lake is predominately used by motorised boats which can be loud. The overall campground is very well maintained, the bathrooms are in excellent condition and the camp hosts are lovely. This is an RV forward campsite but there were a few tents when we were there.

We stayed in site 20 which I would not recommend as it is directly adjacent to the toilets. It is positioned in the inner loop and has direct eyeline to the toilets with no privacy. Luckily the toilets did not smell at all due to the good management. We were rooftop tent camping and made the most of the site by using the electric plugin to create ambiance. The sites across the way have a great view of the lake. Site 19 is stunning if you can book it, it’s got a great view and has good privacy. We were able to have breakfast there one morning as the occupants checked out early.

All in all, great campground if you can get a lake spot. Generators can be loud at times but the policy is that they have to be turned off by 10pm. Most people didn’t use generators but there was one who had his on all day. Great vicinity to west Yellowstone for people who want to explore the park during the day and come back to the campsite in the evening.

Sweet and simple

Stayed here at the end of a day in Yellowstone. I had reserved a spot, but I wish I had waited because apparently there were a few cancellations and no-shows at excellent sites (this is June 2022 after the flooding up north, possibly why?). 10 was huge, level, and lakefront!

Other campers were staying up to two weeks (!)! and had clearly made friends at the end of the loop, they were a bit noisy into the evening. One gentleman told me he is a local and comes out here every year. It is a bit of a distance to Yellowstone and there are closer choices, so if you need to max your time at the park maybe this wouldn’t be ideal, but it was beautiful in its own right and the lake was great for recreational use, very quiet and clean. Mosquitoes were aggressive but repellent helped a bit.

We lucked out!

On our 4th day exploring Yellowstone, we made a little traveler error. We played and explored a little too long and when it was time to settle in for the night, even though it was a midweek day we found all of the park campgrounds full.  So we made our way out the West Yellowstone entrance to look for something and lucked out and found this campground!  27 sites that sit along Hebgen Lake.  Sites were clean and level, but not tons of privacy.   The lake was peaceful for a single night stay and because we did not get to explore very much it just made us want to come back again someday!

Pathway to more Dispersed camping!

This is a fairly public campground, so there tends to be a lot of traffic during the day. It is also a day use access point so there is also that traffic! There is a boat launch, and beach access on almost every part of the campsite. Sites run between $12-15 depending on the site. There are also discounts for Veterans and Senior Citizens. It is a fairly clean campsite but you may have to book months in advance. If you drive past this campsite there are hundreds of dispersed campsites FOR FREE. But you’ll have to find them, by wandering down the dirt roads. ;)

Great view!

We only stayed briefly here, but I wish it was more time! Looks like a great area to explore. We used it because it was really close to Yellowstone and we could reserve it and arrive late at night. Would love to go back!

Great view great time

Lonesomehurst was amazing!! It was quite, peaceful and everyone there was so nice. It's a little out but I think it's worth it. The lake is so nice you can go swimming, kayak and paddle board. For a full set up it was $23 and for a little one it was $16. They have running water and bathrooms, but no showers. All and all it was great and I would totally do it again!!!

Amazing place

We got there at about midnight and the camp host told us to just set up, get some rest and pay in the morning. They have paddle boards that you can rent and there's a beautiful view. The only sound that we heard were the geese Squawking during the night. Overall a great decision because it is very small and not very many people. Definitely recommend it!

Great spot!

Great campsite near West Yellowstone for those who are interested in visiting the park. Campsites near the lake have fantastic views, and perfect trees for hammocks. Nice beach-like area for playing in/near the water.
