      Fall Favorite

Hawn is a one of the best fall campgrounds close to the St. Louis area.  There are a number of hiking options around the campground in the park and nearby nature reserve.

It is a smaller campground with a good mix of electric and non-electric sites.  The restrooms were clean and they also have some vault toilets in the park for convenience.

      One of MIssouri's Many Gems

Hawn is a lovely park just south of the city a few clicks.  It's tucked away into the trees with ample shade and options for backpacking, backcountry hiking.  The park is nice and sites are spaced out enough.  Not sure about cell service but had a site in the 2nd campground in the middle where there's a break in the trees.  I was able to use Starlink.  People were friendly and overall lovely park and experience.

      Where the rivers meet

Sam a Baker is a beautiful destination for any family. There is plenty to do from hiking to horseback riding. There are multi camp sites that can be easily reserved online. The Saint Francis River and the Big Creek meet in the park. The big creek is spring feed and ice cold. The Saint Francis is wild and is considered white water during the rainy season. There are plenty of amenities in the park for the novice camper. From the camp store to the shower house. SAM A BAKER has you covered

      A Busy Weekend

We arrived later and the staff was so attentive and kind! They remembered our groups names and were so kind at the shop! We had a large camp ground, two spots fit our group of 8 with room! We also had 5 vehicles. The camp sites in the #70’s are so close to the water and a short walk to the toilet/shower house! The bathrooms could have been cleaner and some of the lights were out but not the worst I have seen! (Your camping anyways) the float shuttle was a bumpy ride but the drivers were nice and the men at the raft pick ups were kind also! I would recommend this lil place! Maybe not In The summer time when the river is busy but to camp anytime!

      Nice campground in the woods.

We camped at site 39 over the weekend. The park was very clean and family friendly. There are several hiking trails and an overlook. The restrooms and showers are still closed for the season, but there are primitive vault toilets. The sites are very close together, so there is not much privacy. Also, some have electricity and some not. The firewood was wet und would not burn. The landscape around the park was very nice. We camped here to visit the Gateway National Park and Mastodon Natural Site.

      beautiful cabins/full hook-up for RVs

Went to stay in a cabin for one night, then extended our stay.   The place was to nice to leave.   The lake and St. Francis river are crystal clear.  Watched the baby deer, and listen to thw owls at night.   The cabin had all the amenities included, towels, coffee, soaps, dinnerware and cookware.    check-in was easy. Front deck included a B-B-Q  grill, and hot tub that over looked the lake and camp fire.   Our family will be back.   Thank you!

      Not for Holiday Weekends

The sites are in close proximity to one another so it gets crowded during Holiday weekends. Aside from that, the park is peaceful, very clean, and full of surprises.

A Paid Reservation is not a Firm Reservation

With a paid reservation made 3 months in advance, the Campground Host cancelled our reservation, refunded our money and then quadrupled the rate for that same period ($125 went to $750 for one night).  Your paid family vacation plans reservation is not firm with Otahki Lake Cabins and Campgrounds KOA. I hope this does not happen to you and your family’s dream camping trip!

      Family Camping Perfection ✨

We have been coming here for years, there is something for everyone here! The water is slow and shallow enough in tons of places for littles and deep and cold enough for the older kids and adults to cool off too. The store is adorable, the food is surprisingly really good (I’m craving those loaded nachos!), and when you’re absent-minded like me and forget the bikes you can rent them there 😁 We like Campground 2 on the gravel side (to the left when you pull in) because it’s nice and quiet and close to the nature center. You really can’t go wrong with any of the sites!

      Just About Perfect

Took the youngest kids for their first camping trip, and it could not have been better. Plenty of space, site was level for our tents and had a nice, soft carpet of pine needles, facilities in great shape (didn't use the showers, but they looked decent and were fairly popular), nice sink in the laundry room we used to fill our dish-washing tubs, good neighbors, nobody too noisy and folks generally kind and friendly. Really enjoyed being on the tents-only side of the campground--allowed for a clear, wide view of the landscape and the fall colors. Hiking is some of the best in Missouri.

I will say that the "walk-in" sites didn't seem to have much privacy and weren't very far from the parking lot, if that matters to you.

All in all, you can't get much better for tent camping.

      My favorite campground!

Hawn is my favorite campground close to St. Louis. We always stay in the walk-in sites; 47 has been our favorite so far. 48 is a little weird - it’s longer than it is wide, so I think it would be hard to have two tents. 50 is the biggest. There’s great hiking in the area and you can get right up on Pickle Creek near the walk-in sites. The facilities have always been clean and well maintained. It’s a little smaller than, say, Meramec, and I think because of that it’s pretty quiet.

One warning though: they only sell firewood between 9-10am and 6-7pm. We got to our site one time at 7pm and had to get a bundle of wood from a neighbor.

      Very well maintained

Stayed here for three nights over Halloween weekend, and it was wonderful. There were very few people there to begin with, but Sunday night there was no one else there but us. We even had a deer run through our campsite while we sat fireside! Bathrooms were clean, roads were well maintained, and the signs were very clear.

      Classic Float Trip Campground!

Multiple weekends spent at this campsite, both with and without family.  RV sites are clean, mostly level, and well spaced out, with quiet hours rules to accommodate families.  The "Zoo" is for the younger and rowdier crowd, and is located north of HWY 8, away from the family-friendly sites, and has later quiet hours and is known for its party-like atmosphere.  Campers in this area are effectively "locked in" after a certain time, to prevent the rowdiness from spilling over after hours.  Amenities are plentiful, and the camp store is larger than most convenience stores you'd find on the highway.  Floating options are plentiful, with multiple routes and raft/canoe/tube options available.  Either float away from your campsite, with a shuttled return, or take the shuttle to the put-in, upstream, and float back to your campsite.  An annual tradition!

      Decent older state park

Level sites throughout, but close together. Our power pole had an open ground on the 30 amp and no water at the site. No ATT or Verizon cell. The trees boosted the rating and were the highlight of the place,

It was decent for a night over, but not for a destination. Did not use the facilities nor try OTA tv. It is a nice park, but just had seen better days.

      A very nice park

We stayed one night on our way to Arkansas in site 199. Our site was level and spacious. The camp host was friendly and helpful. We had a nice time riding our bikes in the morning. The only reason for a 4 rather than a 5 was that lack of cell signal at our site (it was fine in other parts of the park).

Nice place but rules are a joke

We stopped for the night on our way to Georgia. Booking was easy and price was average. The property itself is beautiful. Spots are intermingled in the trees and it is spectacular in the morning. The pool is better then most hotels and the giant trampoline looked like it would be my daughters favorite thing if she were with us.

The bad parts of this place was the fact that rules didn't seem to apply. Someone was playing loud music till at least 1130pm when we went to bed. We also witnessed dogs being left outside unattended and barking for 20 minutes straight starting at 735am. The highway is also extremely close and can be heard at all times.

All in all it's a nice place. We would definitely stop here again if we're ever around. But we wouldn't stay long.

If you're cool with the noise check it out!

      Tuck away quiet lake campground

Smaller, older park with limited hookups but beautiful scenery- is off a marina so is a wonderful place if your family has a boat as well. Could be more difficult for larger rigs to level or find the convince of private campgrounds. Has limited outhouses and bathroom but if you love quieter spaces- Don’t pass this one by.

      Easy going in Campground 1

I’ve never been to a campground so finely manicured. The grass is short and the roads are in great shape. Campground 1 has a boat ramp and easy access to river sits. Some of the sites are a little crampy, but if all you’re doing is cooking and sleeping, you’re as good to go as a crunch wrap supreme. When night falls, be sure to lock your food up like Fort Knox. We saw a few stinks, a whizzle, and a fat racc. And boy, were they persistent. Next trip we’ll be hitting the backpacking trails. Can’t wait to come back. Thanks Sammy.
