    Beautiful lake views

Stayed on the A loop and had a beautiful view of the lake! Nice to be close to bathrooms and have a gorgeous view. Friendly staff, great price, and campsites have a fire pit with a grill, and a picnic table. We’ll be back!

    Great Camping

Stayed here for three nights. All spots have plenty of shade when we walked around. Shower house and bathrooms were clean and nice. Lots of things to do such as boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing and swimming. Fire pits were even nice with an attached grill grate.

    Trailside RV Park

    Decent

Good: New management seems friendly and helpful. Laundry facilities acceptable. ($1.25 to wash)
Propane fill on site. Pool and restrooms closed during my stay, appear nice enough.

Bad: Noise. Mostly from the highway, but also trains and air traffic. Situated between two neighborhoods, the highway, and an RV dealership. Did I mention noise? WiFi is laughable.

    Phone/internet service is low average.

Overall, adequate. Nothing too bad (except the noise), and nothing to rave about.

    Great Overnight Campsite

Stayed here for one night after driving down from Nebraska. Great place to set up for the night, clean bathrooms, a nice fire pit, and plenty of room to set up a tarp for the rain. Not too much privacy as there’s not very many trees around and the sites are close together but otherwise a great campground!

    Nicely shaded spots.

We stayed for two days in spot #92. Many of the spots have a good amount of room, but there are some that looked tricky to level. 92 was fine for leveling. The only downside is that the spots, while larger, are fairly open (in the area around 92). I prefer a spot that has a tucked away fire pit and table, but this worked OK for us. Bathhouses were clean and there is a great 3.75 mile paved loop around the lake if you have dogs that enjoy long walks.

    Lake Jacomo - Fleming Park

    Quick Questival Camp

We are camping here while doing the Cotopaxi Questival Adventure Race. It's a very nice setting in a Grove of trees atop a hill. Both electric and primitive sites are available. The bathrooms are the nicest campground bathrooms I've ever used - large, clean, and not communal, so you get a sink, toilet, and shower all to yourself. This campground is in close proximity to the lake, trails, and many other outdoorsy diversions!

    Relaxing

We really enjoyed this campground. The staff were very friendly from start to finish. Our site was perfect for our 32 foot travel trailer. Our site was shaded. as were many others on the campground. There are a handful that do not have any shade. Though we did not have one, there are also a few sites with a Lakeview. Nice playground for the kids, and plenty of grass to take the dogs out. Site was large enough for our trailer and two vehicles and still room for fire pit and awning to come out. A little hwy noise, but nowhere near enough to interrupt our trip.

    AOK Campground & RV Park

    Lovely overnight stop!

We were traveling and was looking for an overnight stop. This was very easy off the interstate but once there you felt like you were miles out in the country. Yes.. if you were listening for it you could hear some road noise. But it really wasn’t invasive at all. The sites appear mostly all level and gravel. We had a pull through and it was perfect for overnight. Full hook up and shade. We travel with a dog and so much lush green grass to explore and walk was a plus for us. There is a dog park but I didn’t look for it so can’t comment on it. Didn’t use the bath house either. Owners were great and met us even after hours when we arrived to make sure we were in the spot correctly. Would definitely recommend. They have a few tent sites that looked very nice. Site A was really tucked into the back and had lots of vegetation and privacy. The pool was small but was clean and fenced.

Guide to Platte City

Camping in Platte City, Missouri offers a mix of waterfront and wooded sites within 20 miles of Kansas City. The area sits at approximately 850 feet elevation with seasonal temperatures ranging from winter lows around 20°F to summer highs in the 90s. Many campgrounds stay open year-round despite Missouri's variable weather patterns, though water services at some locations close during winter months.

What to do

Hiking diverse trails: At Weston Bend State Park Campground, visitors can explore trails beyond the paved options. "Weston Bend State Park has an amazing hiking trail system within the park! Even one paved trail! We greatly enjoyed our visit and can't wait to go again!" writes Danielle H.

Lake access activities: Crow's Creek Campground features direct water access for boating and fishing. "We have a section with just electric where you are right on water and can leave boat right on lake. They have water and electricity on hill no lake view but nice to have water hookup," notes Robin R.

Explore historic sites: Watkins Mill State Park Campground offers both natural and cultural attractions. "If you like history, take a tour of the woolen mill part. Very cool," shares Josh P. The park combines outdoor recreation with educational opportunities about local heritage.

What campers like

Level, well-maintained sites: Campers appreciate the site quality at Camp Branch Campground. "Nice level camping spots both all electric, water, and sewer and minimal utilities. Some sites close to water. Great fishing, hiking, and 18 hole golf course close by," explains Mike D.

Privacy between spots: "We were in site 26, one of the few basic sites. While some of the other sites were very close to each other, this one is relatively isolated. It's big too," writes Barbie G. about her experience at Weston Bend State Park.

Clean facilities: Smithville area campgrounds maintain excellent amenities. "The shower houses and outhouses were probably some of the cleanest I've ever seen and fully restocked and cleaned daily," reports Caitlin R. about Smiths Fork Recreation Area.

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Not all glamping close to Platte City, Missouri operates year-round. "Due to unseasonably cold weather they shut off water with no notice and halfway through our stay. Ended up leaving early since we had no water and also no sewer at site," warns Bridget U. about Crow's Creek Campground.

Site variations: Even within the same campground, accommodations vary significantly. "Camp Branch has nice big spots with electric only. It is quite a ways to shower house but much quieter than other campgrounds on Smithville lake. More family friendly," notes Robin R.

Reservation requirements: Many premium glamping sites require advance planning. "Smithville Lake has both 30 and 50 amp. Close to 169 hwy. Perfect for families with young children. Smaller park, very friendly hosts," shares Robin R. about Smith's Fork.

Tips for camping with families

Pool access for kids: Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA provides amenities specifically for families. "Friendly staff and clean bath/shower facilities. Close proximity to the interstate does come with some traffic noise. Many retail options within a short drive," mentions Renee H.

Playgrounds within walking distance: Crow's Creek provides convenient recreation options. "The roads and trails are nice for scooters and bikes. Fairly close to the water and playground; within walking distance," notes Brittnie T.

Budget-friendly activities: Camp Branch offers affordable recreation. "We reserved 3 sites for a family camping trip. The camp hosts were very polite. We had a short walk to the lake for fishing, and the loop had a restroom. We were able to enter the swim beach without having to pay extra," shares Nikki S.

Tips from RVers

Full hookup locations: AOK Campground & RV Park provides complete services. "The sites were nice, level gravel sites. The dogs enjoyed all the extra room, grassy areas, and small trail to explore," reports Soren B.

Site leveling challenges: Be prepared with leveling equipment at some campgrounds. "Some downfalls were our spot was 13" unlevel. Luckily we had several blocks of wood to help level our camp out. The grass wasn't mowed," warns Caitlin R. about her stay at Crow's Creek.

Hookup placement considerations: Check site layouts before booking. "Only negatives were our hookups were literally in the next site next to their table, and their fire ring was very close to our trailer," notes Roy T. about Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA.
