Mark Twain National Forest Glad Top Trail Willie Lee Wolf Junction

Within Mark Twain National Forest, this walk-in campground occupies a historic homestead site along Missouri's only National Forest Scenic Byway. The Glade Top Trail passes directly through the area, connecting visitors to 23 miles of ridge-top driving through the Ozarks. Two fire rings and a picnic table serve the small open camping area, which requires a short walk from the gravel parking space.

The site marks the former homestead of J.W. Findley, known locally as "The Walking Preacher of the Ozarks" in the 1930s. A QR code post provides additional historical information about the location. A wide trail leads uphill from the camping area. The gravel access road can be dusty but remains in good condition with minimal traffic. For different terrain, Hercules-Glades Wilderness Area lies three miles west.

Peace on the Trail

J.W. Findley homestead from the 1930's platt book and is now known as Wolf Junction.  J.W. Findley was well known in the area as "The Walking Preacher of the Ozarks."  He did not own a car and in order to preach he walked where ever he was able to preach.  Preacher Findley walked an average of 4,000 miles a year.  He also wrote several books.  He love the Ozarks.  His homesite is now used as a stop for the Glade Top Trail.  This trail is Missouri's only National Forest Scenic Byway.  The 23 mile trail meanders through narrow ridge tops and down into the hollers of the Mark Twain National Forest.  There is a small but pretty open area with 2 fire rings, picnic table, and small parking area.  There is a wide trail that heads up the hill.  You will also find a post with a QR code that I was able to scan and get additional info.  The road is gravel and very dusty but in very good shalpe and we encountered very little traffic.
