Cherokee Lakes Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Shade defines the tent area at Cherokee Lakes Campground. Tall trees cover the secluded walk-in sites, which are separated from the RV loop and each outfitted with a picnic table and brick fire ring. Some sites include individual water spigots, and a covered central picnic area gives campers a shared gathering spot. The access road runs rough in spots, so low-clearance vehicles should approach with care.

The campground sits near O'Fallon and Highway 70, which keeps it convenient for road trippers but also means some road noise carries into camp. A few long-term rigs occupy the grounds alongside overnight visitors, giving the place a residential feel that may or may not suit a given traveler. Rick I. notes there are sites with enough tree spacing that hammock camping could work, though confirming that with staff is worth doing at check-in.

Full hookups with electric, water, and sewer connections are available for RVs. Flush toilets, showers, laundry, and a fitness center are located at the main entrance, with a portable toilet closer to the tent sites for convenience. The on-site shop carries basic supplies. Campers who want to browse places to camp near O'Fallon will find this one well-positioned for a night or two while passing through the St. Louis corridor.

Cherokee Lakes works best for self-contained RV travelers or tent campers who want full amenities and a quick check-in without venturing far from the interstate.

Convenient

Good location close to O'Fallon and Hwy 70. Kind of close to the busy main road running through town. Some long term rigs are there, but look kept up.

Secluded and spacious tent camping sites

I spent a night here camping while on a road trip. The check-in was quick and easy. The host showed me the tent campsites, which are secluded and private from the RV sites. The sites are outfitted with a picnic table and brick fire rings. Some have water spickets. There's a central covered picnic area. Lots of shade and tall trees. You'll want to check them for dead limbs before setting up your site. I didn't ask if hammock camping is allowed. There are at least two sites that would work nicely for a hammock. A portable toilet is available to keep the area sanitary for urgent needs; the flush toilets, laundry, and fitness center at the main entrance are also available for a longer walk or short drive.

Absolute Heaven

This is the best camp site I have ever stayed at. The owners are so sweet and friendly, the spots are nice and big, we’re here in Mid September and the weather has been beautiful, there’s a pool and a workout center, showers and laundry, they sell last minute necessities and gifts in the little shop.. well maintained, clean, gorgeous. So peaceful!!

Gravel parking lot with full hook-ups!

This is more of a "long-term" campground than for any vacationers. We had gone there because we were having work done in O'Fallon on towed vehicle. I would never stay there again! Nor would I recommend it.
