Big Foot Horse Trail and Camp offers free primitive camping specifically for equestrians in the De Soto National Forest near Hattiesburg. The campground provides toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings for both tent and RV campers with direct access to equestrian trails. The campground accommodates horse trailers with ample parking areas designed for larger rigs. Riders should note there are no dedicated horse corrals on site, so portable corrals or highline systems are necessary for securing horses overnight. The grounds remain open year-round with no reservations required for camping. Visitors should watch their step as horse manure is prevalent throughout the camping area.

The trail system connecting to Big Foot Horse Camp provides extensive riding opportunities through pine forests and natural terrain. Riders access multiple trail loops directly from the campground without needing to trailer horses to separate trailheads. Water for horses must be brought in as no drinking water facilities exist on site. The campground operates on a pack-in, pack-out basis with no trash service available. Forest County Multi-Purpose Events Center provides an alternative option with full hookups for those seeking more amenities, though it lacks dedicated equestrian facilities. Most visitors to Big Foot report the primitive conditions are well worth the direct trail access and peaceful forest setting. Riders should bring all necessary supplies including feed, water containers, and waste management tools.

      Nice Spot

This is a really pretty wide open dispersed camping area. Although it may get crowded. I am here on a cold day in the beginning of February and there are four other campers here. The campground is nice and quiet with the exception of nearby shooting. There also appears to be a ton of great trails for horses, walking, running etc. Pretty spot!

      quick overnight

Was alright for a quick overnight. Really needs some better maintenance and cleaning especially restrooms. Some “long term” RVs set up, pretty quiet though. Price increased to $25.

      Primative but free

Campgrounds are beautiful with line forests surrounding the sites. Utilities are primitive but expected for a free campground. Watch where you step! Lots of horse poop.

      LOVE-LOVE-LOVE this place!

There were maybe 6 campers here when we arrived at midnight or so- Easy access, large lots, 50amp and under, not a destination but the perfect overnight stop! However, beautiful lake behind it with a wooden walking bridge that crosses the entire thing. I will be here EVERY TIME I cone this way!!

      Great No-Frills Stop

Great place to stop if you just need to get off the road. There wasn’t anything going on at the multipurpose center, so we pretty much had our pick of the 147 spots. There is a clean restroom, but no shower.
