At Bogue Chitto State Park, visitors will experience a diversity of natural habitats on one of the most dynamic and scenic river systems in Louisiana. The 1,786-acre site includes small streams, cypress-tupelo swamps, a hardwood forest, upland forests and a rolling landscape.

5 Upland cabins overlooking a 90 foot Bluff, RV camping, Conference Center, Group Camp, Picnic Pavilions, Canoe Launch, Amphitheater, Water Playground, Over 6 Miles of Hiking Trails, Access to the Bogue Chitto River, Interpretive area, Fishing Lakes. Water Playground - Louisiana State Parks' water playgrounds operate Tuesdays through Sundays, April 1 through October 31, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; the facilities will be closed on Mondays for cleaning and maintenance. Please contact the park directly, to confirm that the playground is open or for additional information.

Overnight visitors will find accommodations from tent camping (complete with glamping sites) to RV camping to cabins overlooking the bluffs. For larger groups and family reunions, the park offers a group camp and a conference room.

Bring your mountain bike and explore the newly opened 14-miles of single track trails for bikers of all skill levels.

Fricke's Cave, which – despite its name – resembles more of a gorge, possesses delicate sandstone spires created when water erodes the surface underneath pebbles. The pebbles remain perched atop the spires, while over time water splashes on the sandstone surface, forming the two-foot-tall fingers of sandstone that shoot up from the now-lowered surface. Boardwalks have been built so that visitors can admire the sandstone creations from afar, as the formations are too delicate to allow visitors to walk among them.

Fourteen miles of equestrian trails wind through some of the most interesting topography of southern Louisiana, with the trailhead located near Fricke's Cave. A day trip to Bogue Chitto State Park will be a full one, with a river perfect for canoeing or kayaking, 11 lakes stocked with a variety of freshwater fish, a water playground, numerous picnic pavilions and an outdoor classroom.

    Bogue Chitto State Park Campground

    Overall great park

I went camping for New Years. My campsite was right next to the bathrooms which was super convenient and surprisingly not noticeably busy. Thought I would have access to the water but didn’t. The hiking trail connects just across the road so easy access but kind of hard to find the trailhead. Enjoyed hiking the trail and had plenty of spots with water along the way for my dog. We hiked on the beach as well and it was quite peaceful we were basically the only ones.

Quiet Getaway with Great Activities and Amenities

We stayed at spot 31. Near the restrooms but not much through traffic. Dumpster was right next to the bathrooms. Not a lot of street lights throughout the campground made things nice and quiet at night. Spots were gravel and needed a lot of leveling front to back. The site had a very nice deck with a picnic table. The site had full hookups for water, electricity, and sewage. The site had great Verizon and T-mobile cell service, around 50-80 mbps for each. The hiking trails were very nice with lots of shorts and long options. The bike trails were also nice with a lot of different difficulty options to try, you can also rent bikes if needed. Overall the campground was clean, very quiet, very spacious, and is a perfect weekend getaway with fun activities. We camped at Bogue Chitto State Park in a Travel Trailer.

    Bogue Chitto State Park Campground

Big campground with lots of activities

We stayed in the Uplands RV area and it was great. Spots were gravel and big so it was pretty easy to back into, with nice patios and not too close together. Some spots had motorhomes on a lift on the front to be level, but most were fine. The bathrooms near us were clean but the showers did have some mold (did not use). The trails are really nice! You can tell a lot of work goes into continual improvement and upkeep.

Bring or rent bikes and canoes! Would visit again , for sure.

    LOVE-LOVE-LOVE this place!

There were maybe 6 campers here when we arrived at midnight or so- Easy access, large lots, 50amp and under, not a destination but the perfect overnight stop! However, beautiful lake behind it with a wooden walking bridge that crosses the entire thing. I will be here EVERY TIME I cone this way!!

Great park tent spot so so

I enjoyed my stay at Bogue Chitto. There is plenty to do, between biking, hiking, fishing, and play grounds. I didn’t like my spot though. I booked on the water, but the vegetation was over grown so I didn’t have a view of it. Nor could I fish in there because of the over growth. I definitely saw better spots and will book there next time.

    Not a functional camp grund

When I was a kid this place was nice but .. I called and was told to just to show up. When we did there was no one around. The place looks to be abandoned. We went to nearby lake Lincon. But staying there was not a option. The hookups were there but the grass was taller than they were .

One of my favorite La. State Parks

Bogue Chitto State Park is wonderful, well maintained, and peaceful. We had a great weekend stay, and the weather was perfect, except for one eventing of rain. Take the time to explore the beach on the river.

We really enjoyed hiking (it has many trails) and kayaking the lake at the Day Use Area. My son really enjoyed the splash pad. Bathrooms were clean. Park has a great disc golf course, mountain bike trails, and horse trails.

Stayed in Uplands campsite 21. Site was pretty level side-to-side and sloped to the back. Had lots of space, but is sunny during the day. Late afternoon sun shines under awning because door side faces west. Back-in site with asphalt parking, picnic table, BBQ pit, and fire ring. 15A/30A/50A, water and sewer hookups. Not much shade in the campsite. Nearest neighbor was 20 ft. Away. Roads in the park were asphalt. Campground road is in need of some repair. Recommend sites(in order): site 31, 23, 28, 24, 30. 30-31 are near extra parking. AT&T had poor service, but Verizon was good.

Would definitely stay here again. The park has put in and take out landings on the river. We camped at Bogue Chitto State park in a Travel Trailer. We camped at Bogue Chitto State park in a Travel Trailer.

    Great No-Frills Stop

Great place to stop if you just need to get off the road. There wasn’t anything going on at the multipurpose center, so we pretty much had our pick of the 147 spots. There is a clean restroom, but no shower.

    Another awesome state park!!

We are state park fans and Bogu Chitto did not disappoint!! Great for hiking, biking, kayaking, tubing, relaxing, wildlife viewing, river beach, and mountain biking trails. The camping is split into two sections...uplands and bottomlands. Some of the uplands are full hookup, and bottomlands are just water and electric. They have two dump stations on the way to the bottomlands. The sites in bottomlands seem to be bigger and more private. Love the park and felt like we had it to ourselves (midweek). There are some night biting bugs, but the daytime was fabulous and the staff was great!!

    Spot 124 is great!

We stayed at site 124 in “Bottomland” and we loved it. New “deck” with room for a rug, fire pit, and chairs. The deck also has a picnic table with a fire pit just off the edge. There’s a creek that ran behind the spot that kept my husband busy. The only downside is that the water and electricity plug are pretty far from your camper- you may need to pack your extender.

    Beautiful Park. Enjoyed the stay.

Bogue Chitto State Park is wonderful, well maintained, and peaceful. We had a great weekend stay, and the weather was perfect. Take the time to explore the beach on the river. We really enjoyed hiking(it has many trails) and the beach. I enjoyed sitting along the lake in the mornings. My son really enjoyed the splash pad. Bathrooms were clean. Park has a great disc golf course, mountain bike trails, and horse trails.  Campground has Trick or Treating every Saturday in October at 6pm.  Many campers decorate their sites (we did).

Stayed in Bottomlands campsite Bottomlands, site 104. No shade. Evening sun shines under awning. Site 103 has better water view and awning faces East, but no shade. Site 105 has shade in the afternoon but cant see water from awning side. Back-in site with asphalt parking, picnic table, BBQ pit, and fire ring. 15A/30A (dont remember if it had 50A) and water; no sewer hookups. Not much shade in the campsite. The site is located on the lake, but the woods block most of the view. Nearest neighbor was at least 20-30 ft. Away. Roads in the park were asphalt. AT&T had poor service, but Verizon was good. No WiFi. We camped in a Travel Trailer.

Would definitely stay here again (but not in site 104) and bring kayaks next time. The park has a put in and take out landings on the river. We camped at Bogue Chitto State park in a Travel Trailer.

    Alot to do

Went on a day pass and there was definitely alot to do. Long hiking trail, fishing, horse trails, frisbee golf, playground, canoe launch. Went on the hiking trail and it was good but somewhat crowded. Didn’t see any animals but had beautiful views.

    Beautiful state park

The park is very well maintained! We visited three weeks after Hurricane Ida and there were virtually no signs of damage left outside of down trees in the tree lines. Beautiful trees, the park is huge, everyone was kind! Dogs are allowed. They do have wifi, but we could not connect. However, cell service was great in the park so we used our hotspot. Will be back!

Up & coming park Not there yet, but coming.

When we arrived the bottom land loops were closed due to recent floods. The upper loop has paved roads, pads were decent size with huge gravel rocks. Well spaced sites  mostly level. Not a lot of shade, but still nice. signs of work being done every where, from parking areas to hiking trails. Very clean & well maintained. Plently of distance between sites. Use caution in using gps or even google maps they try to turn you onto an almost non existing gravel road off the main hiway. Follow the signs.

Cell  wes good for both ATT & Verizon. Did not try OTA TV nor the showerhouse.

    Clean and quite

Nice camp ground, top side rv sites have sewage connections lower sites near river do not have sewage connections. No rv sites are on the river but lower sites are on small lakes. These were gravel pits at one time. Nice trails for hiking with large beach access on river.

Short history about area. The movie Deadman walking with Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon is loosely based on this area. State of LA vs Robert Lee Willie

    Bogue Chitto State Park Campground

    Better than expected

Our site was perfect for us. Plenty of shade at our particular site. Pad was wide enough without a slope coming out of either door. Fire pit was in a nice location and the picnic table was huge. Family was able to do plenty of bike riding around the park with only one monster hill. The park was full but spread out enough to enjoy our on space. The river area was crowded due to the day users but we found a area to keep our distance. There are some really nice sites in the upper portion of the park. The lower portion is not really ideal for our 36ft TT. But if you had a small unit it may be perfect for you. Staff was extremely friendly. We will definitely return to this park.

    Top-notch destination

Very clean, well kept state park. Hiking trails, equestrian trails, tubing, camping... they’ve got it all. Campsites are neat, well maintained. We saw maintenance staff checking things several time per day. We will definitely be back.

    ‘Bout That Bogue Chitto

We visited Bogue Chitto after torrential rains pummeled Louisiana and Mississippi causing the park to cancel our site we had reserved with a water view in the Bottomland Loop. This really ended up being a blessing in disguise. We were forced to just pick a site when we arrived at the park (not so great for this OCD-Teacher-Planner-Mom), but after only one drive around the Upland Loop, we decided on site 2 and were not disappointed! The site backed up to a trail, and the driver side of the trailer faced a wooded area (instead of a neighboring site) which afforded us much more privacy than any of the other sites would have. Sites 9, 14, and 46 also looked nice with their awnings facing trees instead of other campsites. All sites in this loop had sewer hook ups, so that was nice. There was a concrete pad underneath the fire ring with a lifting grill, a separate grill by the wooden picnic table, and a lantern post. There was a big tent pad close to the fire ring as well.

We thoroughly enjoyed all of the hiking and biking opportunities this campground afforded us. Although the Bottomland area was closed for camping, we still checked things out for future visits. Given the choice between the two loops in the future, I think I’d choose site 2 again. Camp hosts were visible and kept the campground very clean. During our visit, there was a Dutch Oven competition, so the campground was packed.

We only were able to stay here for two nights and left wishing we could have stayed much longer! We will definitely visit Bogue Chitto State Park again.

    DON'T FEED THE GATORS

Literally, don't feed the gators. There were signs everywhere. Apparently many people don't heed the signs. When my hubby rustled a bag, several alligators swam right up to our site! Our campsite #101 was right on one of the many lakes in the park. Not much room, but nice enough for looking at the alligators and fishing. No sewer hookup, but electric and water. Dump station was a short drive away. We were in the lower area campsites, which were prone to flash flooding. We actually left a day early due to prediction of rain. The bath house was a short walk away and very clean. Camp hosts actually drove around and checked on guests. There are wonderful hiking, biking, and horse trails. Canoeing and kayaking was a short drive away. Did I mention that there are free mini libraries??

    Old but nice campground

I haven’t stayed in the campground in our own camper yet, but have previously stayed with family in theirs. The campground is nice. It’s not cemented or anything like that. I think you have the basics, water, electricity, and I believe sewer hookups. We’ve stayed in a cabin more recently. The cabin was really nice and taken care of. It was a short walk down a trail to the Boguechitto River. We enjoyed this campground and hopeful to revisit in our own RV.

    Great for Overnight

While maybe not a destination site, it’s great for overnighting. We’ve stayed here for an overnight several years in a row on our way to Gulf Shores from Central AR. Concrete pads, full hookups, excellent satellite reception throughout the park. The RV Park is adjacent to a multi purpose facility. Rodeo, barrel racing, concerts, gatherings, etc. In our stops here, the park has never been more than a 1/3 occupied. Plenty of spaces to choose from. Payment is the honor system. $20 on the way out!
