Bogue Chitto State Park Campground offers equestrian trails and welcomes riders with horses. The 1,200-acre park features maintained horse trails traversing varied terrain through bottomland hardwood forests. Campers with horses can access dedicated equestrian paths while staying at either the Upland or Bottomland camping loops. The park accommodates various camping styles with tent sites, RV hookups, and cabins available. Many sites have full hookups including water, electric, and sewer connections. Trailer parking is available near campsites. Riders note that trail access points are well-marked and the park is maintained with clean facilities. Some trails follow alongside the Bogue Chitto River, providing scenic riding opportunities and water access for horses during warmer months.

The park's trail system connects directly to several riding loops ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. Horse owners can access approximately 14 miles of designated equestrian trails with varied terrain including wooded sections, river views, and gentle hills. Water crossings are present on some trails, particularly after rainfall. The campground provides clean restrooms and shower facilities near both camping loops. Sites in the Upland area offer more level parking for horse trailers compared to the Bottomland section. Summer months see higher visitor numbers, especially on weekends when day-use visitors also access the trails. The park requires negative Coggins tests for all horses, and riders must follow established trail rules including proper waste management. Winter and spring typically offer the best trail conditions with fewer muddy sections.

      DON'T FEED THE GATORS

Literally, don't feed the gators. There were signs everywhere. Apparently many people don't heed the signs. When my hubby rustled a bag, several alligators swam right up to our site! Our campsite #101 was right on one of the many lakes in the park. Not much room, but nice enough for looking at the alligators and fishing. No sewer hookup, but electric and water. Dump station was a short drive away. We were in the lower area campsites, which were prone to flash flooding. We actually left a day early due to prediction of rain. The bath house was a short walk away and very clean. Camp hosts actually drove around and checked on guests. There are wonderful hiking, biking, and horse trails. Canoeing and kayaking was a short drive away. Did I mention that there are free mini libraries??

      Alot to do

Went on a day pass and there was definitely alot to do. Long hiking trail, fishing, horse trails, frisbee golf, playground, canoe launch. Went on the hiking trail and it was good but somewhat crowded. Didn’t see any animals but had beautiful views.

      Bogue Chitto State Park Campground

One of my favorite La. State Parks

Bogue Chitto State Park is wonderful, well maintained, and peaceful. We had a great weekend stay, and the weather was perfect, except for one eventing of rain. Take the time to explore the beach on the river.

We really enjoyed hiking (it has many trails) and kayaking the lake at the Day Use Area. My son really enjoyed the splash pad. Bathrooms were clean. Park has a great disc golf course, mountain bike trails, and horse trails.

Stayed in Uplands campsite 21. Site was pretty level side-to-side and sloped to the back. Had lots of space, but is sunny during the day. Late afternoon sun shines under awning because door side faces west. Back-in site with asphalt parking, picnic table, BBQ pit, and fire ring. 15A/30A/50A, water and sewer hookups. Not much shade in the campsite. Nearest neighbor was 20 ft. Away. Roads in the park were asphalt. Campground road is in need of some repair. Recommend sites(in order): site 31, 23, 28, 24, 30. 30-31 are near extra parking. AT&T had poor service, but Verizon was good.

Would definitely stay here again. The park has put in and take out landings on the river. We camped at Bogue Chitto State park in a Travel Trailer. We camped at Bogue Chitto State park in a Travel Trailer.

    Guide to McComb

Bogue Chitto State Park Campground features horseback riding trails and equestrian-friendly accommodations 10 miles from McComb. The park maintains clean, well-spaced campsites with both RV and tent options in two distinct camping areas - Uplands and Bottomlands loops. Riders appreciate the park's extensive trail network designed for horses, with multiple terrain types from wooded paths to riverside routes. The campground offers water and electric hookups at most sites, with full sewer connections available in the Uplands loop. Bottomland sites position campers closer to water features but lack sewer hookups. The park's horse trails connect to natural features throughout the 1,200-acre property, allowing for extended riding experiences.

Trail access begins directly from the campground, with routes suitable for various riding skill levels. The park's trail system includes both dedicated bridle paths and multi-use trails that connect riders to scenic overlooks, creek crossings, and the Bogue Chitto River. Horse owners must bring their own portable corrals or tie-out equipment as the park does not provide permanent horse containment facilities. Water access points for horses exist along several trails. Most sites can accommodate horse trailers with adequate parking space, though reservations are recommended for equestrian campers to ensure suitable sites. The campground maintains clean facilities with staff checking amenities multiple times daily. Riders report particularly enjoying the varied terrain and well-maintained trails that showcase the park's distinctive hilly topography unlike most Louisiana state parks.
