    Farr Park RV Camground

    Close to Downtown

County equestrian and RV park close to downtown. Stayed here recently while attending an LSU football game. They have a shuttle that provides round trips to the stadium. Nothing fancy about Farr Park, just convenient if you love horses and football.

    Farr Park RV Camground

    Great for horse people

Not bad. It's connected to an equestrian center. If horses are your thing it's perfect. 2 miles from LSU, 3 miles from Baton Rouge, biking trails along Mississippi River levee. Water and electric, dump station, and a bathhouse. The bad... not many trees or wildlife other than horses. The bathhouse could use some work.

    Farr Park RV Camground

One of the better RV parks in BR Area

One of the better RV parks in the BR area (there's not many close to town).  Has electric and water hookups, but no sewer hookup.  The Mississippi River is nearby. There is a paved bike path on top of the river levee that you can ride all the way to downtown Baton Rouge.  It is only 3 miles from LSU campus.  Some people stay here to tailgate for LSU football games.

Farr Park is part of the Baton Rouge Parks and Recreation system.  It is also an equestrian (horse) center.  There are stables and riding arenas near the campground.

There is a dump station available.  The dump station connection for your sewer hose is at a 45 degree angle and a bit above ground level.  This creates sags in your hose.  Also, there is no way to secure or screw in your connection to the sump station.  The station does have a concrete pad and non-potable water.  You can use the dump station for free if you are a camper.  Non-campers can pay a $10 fee to dump.

    Farr Park RV Camground

    Great location

Stayed Thu-Sun on an LSU football game weekend. Didn’t see anyone at the office- but spaces are well marked for finding the reserved spot. We were in B6- so no real shade- in the late afternoon the only decent shade is on row E. We had good cell signal and were able to stream.

When we arrived there were very few campers- but the park got a lot more visitors by late Friday. It was still pretty quiet throughout the stay. Many of the “campers” were large class A or Fifth wheels, but there were a few smaller units like ours (17 ft. TT). The spaces are grass which was obviously recently mowed and the driveway is white gravel/rock. We used the back trail to get to the levee to ride our e bikes and went on about a 30 mile ride south past L’Auberge, and then we went on another 10 mile ride north toward the capital. The bike paths are in good condition and there are a good number of walkers/runners/bicyclists/and scooters using the paths. I checked out the bath house and it was clean and well maintained. There were 4 (ladies) showers and 3 stalls. There are multiple spaces for campers to dump, although we needed to use the front spots due to height. We decided to get an early start on Sunday morning and were at the dump station before 8- only one other unit arrived when we were finishing up- there wasn’t a line to wait in for us. We will definitely return to Farr for another game weekend. We really enjoyed our stay.

    Farr Park RV Camground

    Safe and Clean

Needed a placed to stay in Baton Rouge for a weekend and didn’t want to pay $300 for a hotel so I decided to car camp.

Plenty of spaces open in April, was a perk to be able to see the animals too.

Quiet area, well kept. I only paid $10 per night since I didnt use any hookups.

    Would definitely stay again.

Quiet, great host, just not real happy with the tree limbs hanging low everywhere.

Enjoyed my time here. Peaceful setting with a pool! Wagon ride for kids, pond, ducks, mule was cute!

Guide to Prairieville

Farr Park RV Campground in Baton Rouge serves as a convenient base for equestrians visiting the Prairieville area. The facility connects directly to an equestrian center with stables and riding arenas on the premises. Located approximately 10 miles north of Prairieville, the campground sits near the Mississippi River at an elevation of 56 feet above sea level, creating a relatively flat terrain that offers stable ground for both tent and RV camping regardless of weather conditions.

What to do

Trail riding along the Mississippi: Access the paved path on the Mississippi River levee directly from Farr Park RV Campground. "The bike paths are in good condition and there are a good number of walkers/runners/bicyclists/and scooters using the paths," notes Susan R. from Farr Park RV Camground.

LSU campus exploration: The campground provides easy access to Louisiana State University, just 2-3 miles away. "First come first serve so you can come as early as you like and then spend a full day exploring LSU and Baton Rouge. Friendly staff. Wifi at the recreation center," reports Jacqueline A. about the convenient location.

Football game transportation: During LSU football season, some campgrounds offer special services. "Stayed here recently while attending an LSU football game. They have a shuttle that provides round trips to the stadium," shares Chris P., highlighting an amenity that makes attending games simpler for visitors to Sweetwater Campground RV Ranch.

What campers like

Budget-friendly alternative: Horse campgrounds near Prairieville provide economical lodging compared to hotels. "Needed a placed to stay in Baton Rouge for a weekend and didn't want to pay $300 for a hotel so I decided to car camp. I only paid $10 per night since I didnt use any hookups," explains Olivia W. about her affordable stay.

Clean facilities: "Quiet area, well kept," reports Olivia W. about the campground conditions. Another camper, Susan R., confirms the maintenance standards: "I checked out the bath house and it was clean and well maintained. There were 4 (ladies) showers and 3 stalls."

Equestrian atmosphere: The proximity to horses creates a unique camping experience at equestrian campgrounds in the Prairieville region. "This campground is so romantic with coral sunsets and country vibes. Perfect views of the horses I could watch them all day," describes Marie B.

What you should know

Hookup limitations: Water and electric connections are available, but sewage requires planning. "30/50 amp electric, water, pull through sites. No sewage but there is a dump station to empty on way out," explains Marie B. The dump station setup has some challenges: "The dump station connection for your sewer hose is at a 45 degree angle and a bit above ground level. This creates sags in your hose," notes David B.

Site conditions: Campsites feature natural surfaces rather than paved pads. "We were in B6- so no real shade- in the late afternoon the only decent shade is on row E. The spaces are grass which was obviously recently mowed and the driveway is white gravel/rock," describes Susan R.

Weekend popularity: Game weekends increase occupancy substantially. "When we arrived there were very few campers- but the park got a lot more visitors by late Friday," reports Susan R., suggesting that early arrival may be beneficial during peak times.

Tips for camping with families

Educational opportunities: Children can interact with farm animals at some equestrian facilities. At Sweetwater Campground, "Peaceful setting with a pool! Wagon ride for kids, pond, ducks, mule was cute!" according to Charmon K.

Budget camping: Car camping presents an economical option for families. "I decided to car camp. Plenty of spaces open in April, was a perk to be able to see the animals too," shares Olivia W., highlighting both the availability and bonus activities.

Bathroom access: Facilities vary between campgrounds, so plan accordingly. "The bathhouse could use some work," notes Patrick R. about Farr Park's facilities, suggesting families might want to prepare for basic rather than luxurious accommodations.

Tips from RVers

Parking configuration: Most sites accommodate larger rigs with pull-through access. "Pull through site. On grass. Level. With water and 59 amp. Easy to get to," describes Jacqueline A., providing essential details for RV setup.

Leveling considerations: The terrain is generally even but preparation is still recommended. "Sites have electric and water. Remote dump site available," explains Michael T., highlighting the standard amenities for RVers at these horse-friendly facilities.

Dump station timing: Plan for potential wait times when departing on busy weekends. "We decided to get an early start on Sunday morning and were at the dump station before 8- only one other unit arrived when we were finishing up- there wasn't a line to wait in for us," recommends Susan R.
