Best Equestrian Camping near Foxworth, MS

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Bogue Chitto State Park Campground offers equestrian trails but lacks dedicated horse corrals or stalls according to the available data. Located in McComb, Louisiana, approximately 30 miles from Foxworth, Mississippi, the park features multiple trail systems suitable for horseback riding with maintained bridle paths throughout the 1,200-acre property. The campground provides accommodations for tent camping, RVs, cabins, glamping, and yurts, though horses must be kept at individual campsites or trailers as no centralized equestrian facilities are available. The park maintains drinking water access, electric hookups, and allows fires with firewood available for purchase. Campers consistently rate the park highly at 4.6/5 stars, noting the well-maintained trails and peaceful atmosphere.

The equestrian trail system connects to multiple lakes and the Bogue Chitto River, providing varied terrain for riders of different experience levels. Horse owners must bring their own containment systems as the park does not provide dedicated corrals, hitching posts, or wash stations. Bottomland campsites offer more space and privacy than the Upland area, making them potentially more suitable for those camping with horses. Riders appreciate the diverse trail options, including both wooded paths and riverside routes with scenic overlooks. The campground remains open year-round with full amenities, though trail conditions can vary seasonally, especially after heavy rains when certain areas may become temporarily restricted due to flooding concerns near the river access points.

    Land-O-Pines Family Campground

    Pleasant campground

Land-O-Pines is a nice private RV park near Folsom and Covington. We stayed two nights because my daughter was in a horse competition at a nearby horse farm. The sites are mostly shady. The streets and sites are gravel and can get a little muddy in spots after a rain. The park was clean and quiet, and the staff was friendly. About half the sites are for permanent users.

Stayed in pull-through campsite C69 which was shady and level. It was a gravel site. There was enough parking for my 34 ft TT and truck. Neighbors are nearby by not on top of you. The site included: picnic table on gravel, no fire ring. Utilities: 20/50A electric near the middle. The 20A receptacle looked like it had some minor burn marks. Water next to power pole, good pressure. Sewer near power pole with 4 non screw-on fitting.

AT&T had 2 bars of LTE and Verizon full bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 30.8 Mbps down, 3.6 Mbps up. Verizon Speedtest: 4.5 Mbps down, 11.8 Mbps up. WiFi available, but did not use. Required a login.

Would stay here again. We camped at Land-O-Pines Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

    DON'T FEED THE GATORS

Literally, don't feed the gators. There were signs everywhere. Apparently many people don't heed the signs. When my hubby rustled a bag, several alligators swam right up to our site! Our campsite #101 was right on one of the many lakes in the park. Not much room, but nice enough for looking at the alligators and fishing. No sewer hookup, but electric and water. Dump station was a short drive away. We were in the lower area campsites, which were prone to flash flooding. We actually left a day early due to prediction of rain. The bath house was a short walk away and very clean. Camp hosts actually drove around and checked on guests. There are wonderful hiking, biking, and horse trails. Canoeing and kayaking was a short drive away. Did I mention that there are free mini libraries??

    Bogue Chitto State Park Campground

One of my favorite La. State Parks

Bogue Chitto State Park is wonderful, well maintained, and peaceful. We had a great weekend stay, and the weather was perfect, except for one eventing of rain. Take the time to explore the beach on the river.

We really enjoyed hiking (it has many trails) and kayaking the lake at the Day Use Area. My son really enjoyed the splash pad. Bathrooms were clean. Park has a great disc golf course, mountain bike trails, and horse trails.

Stayed in Uplands campsite 21. Site was pretty level side-to-side and sloped to the back. Had lots of space, but is sunny during the day. Late afternoon sun shines under awning because door side faces west. Back-in site with asphalt parking, picnic table, BBQ pit, and fire ring. 15A/30A/50A, water and sewer hookups. Not much shade in the campsite. Nearest neighbor was 20 ft. Away. Roads in the park were asphalt. Campground road is in need of some repair. Recommend sites(in order): site 31, 23, 28, 24, 30. 30-31 are near extra parking. AT&T had poor service, but Verizon was good.

Would definitely stay here again. The park has put in and take out landings on the river. We camped at Bogue Chitto State park in a Travel Trailer. We camped at Bogue Chitto State park in a Travel Trailer.
