The campground operates on a digital payment system that catches many visitors off guard. Campers must use the Yodel app for firewood purchases and the Minnesota State Park reservations system for site payments, even when staff are present. No cash, cards, or on-site transactions are accepted. Cell service varies by carrier, with AT&T users reporting reliable coverage at most sites.
Electric sites feature spacious layouts with fire rings and picnic tables, many offering natural shade from mature oaks and surrounding vegetation. The four walk-in sites require about a 100-foot carry from parking and provide more privacy among the trees. Chloe T. found her site "spacious" with "a tree in the center that offered shade and lots of bushes and trees around." Clean restroom facilities with flush toilets and showers serve both camping areas.
The park's trail system winds through prairie, oak savanna, and river bottomland, easily hiked in a day. Seasonal considerations include field work noise during planting and harvest, plus heavy populations of Asian lady beetles in late summer.
