Wakeley Lake Campground — Huron Manistee National Forests

Fishing enthusiasts will find artificial lure and catch-and-release opportunities at this walk-in Forest Service campground on Wakeley Lake. Located within the Huron National Forest, the site requires carrying gear roughly half a mile from the parking area to reach lakeside campsites. At $10 per night, the campground operates under a no-pets policy and accepts reservations through the standard federal system.

The forested setting provides direct water access, with reviewers noting the presence of loons on the lake and spacing that keeps neighboring campers out of earshot. Campfires are permitted, and the hike-in access helps maintain lower visitor density compared to drive-up campgrounds near Huron National Forest. Canoe access makes the site workable for paddlers willing to transport watercraft to the launch area.

Beautiful!

We only stayed one night but it was very nice, right by the water. One other camper nearby but completely out of earshot.

Worth the hike back.

Loved camping on this lake. We hauled our canoe loaded with our tent and amenities on a dolly the half mile or so back to the camp sites. Some of the best catch and release artificial lure only fishing. Loved watching the loons on the lake.
