Fishing, kayaking, and swimming all happen on the same small lake at Turtle Lake Campground, a drive-in facility outside Beulah, Michigan that runs from mid-May through mid-October. The lake draws anglers regularly, and kids fishing from the bank have reportedly pulled up large snapping turtles, which gives the campground its name. Sites come with good shade coverage from mature trees, and a small beach area provides a second access point to the water beyond the boat launch.
Site spacing is a known tradeoff here. Some campers find the layout close enough that neighbors are within easy earshot, while others report feeling adequately separated. A grassy setting keeps dust and mud down, and the bathrooms have been renovated and are noted as clean and well-maintained. The campground also includes a separate equestrian camping area with water and electric hookups, which is uncommon among private campgrounds in this part of northwest Michigan.
Full hookups are available for RVs up to 50 feet, including electric, water, and sewer connections, plus a dump station and WiFi. A large share of the sites are occupied by seasonal campers, so transient sites can be limited during peak summer weekends. Reservations are accepted and worth booking in advance. Grass Lake State Forest Campground and Veterans Memorial State Forest Campground are nearby alternatives for those who prefer a more rustic setup. Stacey R. sums up the appeal simply: "Clean, well kept, lots of trees." Turtle Lake works best for families and RV campers who want water access and full amenities in a single stop.
