Large sites spread throughout forested terrain make Platte River State Forest a draw for campers who value space between neighbors. The 26-site campground sits directly on the Platte River, with many spots offering direct water access for fishing and launching small watercraft.
Site spacing stands out as a key feature, with Tamra W. noting "huge sites, lots of room between sites." Most sites include shade from mature trees, though some open areas accommodate larger RVs requiring electric hookups. Water comes from a hand pump system, and vault toilets receive frequent cleaning during busy periods. The campground fills quickly on summer weekends but often has availability on weekdays and during shoulder seasons.
Salmon fishing draws many visitors to the river, particularly during fall runs. The forest setting provides multiple access points including drive-in sites for RVs, walk-in spots for tent campers, and boat-in options for paddlers. Muddy conditions can develop after heavy rains, affecting site access and comfort.
Campers seeking additional options in the region can explore campgrounds around Honor. The combination of river access, generous site sizes, and forest cover makes this state campground worth considering for groups wanting both privacy and water activities.
