Steamboat Park Campground

This private campground provides full hookup sites at $45-$85 per night, with reservations available year-round. Located along the Grand River in Jenison, the facility operates as one of Michigan's few campgrounds that stays open through winter months. Half the sites sit directly on the wide, fast-moving river where paddleboats occasionally pass with tourists.

The campground features concrete pads and patios, with level sites that accommodate RVs of various sizes. Facilities include individual shower rooms with dedicated sinks and toilets, cleaned twice daily according to campers. Allison H. notes the river water is "brownish" but finds it "beautiful to drink your morning coffee by the water." A saltwater pool overlooks the river, and riverboat cruises depart directly from the office dock for $16 per person.

The campground restricts camping to RVs only - no tent camping allowed. Cell service varies by site location, with stronger signals near the front of the property. Roads include both paved and gravel sections. Fishing opportunities exist directly from campsites, though catches consist mainly of catfish. The facility serves as a convenient base for exploring Grand Rapids, located 30 minutes away, with easy highway access for day trips to nearby attractions.

Campers regularly cited the spacious riverside sites, exceptionally clean facilities, and peaceful atmosphere as major strengths. Several reviews noted accessibility challenges for young children and mixed opinions on pricing.

Great spot!

A hidden gem with a lot of history. A paddle wheel boat on the Grand river?! Nice and secluded yet close to town and easy access to the highway

Great in-town

Nice concrete pads and patios— FHU. Right on the Grand River. Close to Millennium Park and easy to get downtown. Best bathrooms—- clean, individual, large. Bathrooms cleaned 2x daily.

Wonderful, well thought through campground.

I have had a very enjoyable stay. The river location is quite nice and the grounds are very well cared for. The site(and all sites, as far as I can see) are quite level. The bathrooms are not just clean and well maintained, but the shower rooms also have a dedicated sink and toilet, which I much appreciate. The washer and dryers in the bathhouse are brand new and take credit cards. While it is near a regional airport, there is close to no air traffic and no commercial traffic I noticed. Overall, probably one of the top 5 campgrounds I have encountered, if the list was for being up to date, well thought out and well provisioned. Everything was top notch.

Nice and clean

I’m not going to knock any stars off, because there is nothing actually wrong with the campground. But, I just feel it doesn’t work for our family.

It’s extremely clean, very spacious sites, the river view is beautiful and the pool looks great.

It isn’t my favorite for campgrounds we’ve been to because it isn’t the most toddler/young child friendly as we are used to. We have a child with a prosthetic leg, so our situation is unique, and it can determine how much we like a place. The playground structure is not very friendly for kids with special needs or very young children. It’s wooden with a ladder to access the upper levels, it was hard for our 2 and 4 year old to use it easily. They also don’t have any toddler swings, just regular ones set a little too high for young children. It’s also sand rather than wood chips, so it made it difficult for our daughter to walk in in her prosthetic. Only a portion of the roads were paved as well and the rest was gravel, so my little ones were disappointed that they couldn’t ride their scooters and balance bikes right by our campsite.

Again, there is nothing wrong with this campground, it’s beautiful and comfortable. But it may not be ideal for those with little kids in that in between age or young ones with special needs. We tend to be willing to pay more for private campgrounds that suit our needs, and this one just doesn’t quite hit the mark for us. They also definitely seem to like/cater more to the big fancy rigs, not so much the smaller campers. And they don’t allow tents.

Lots to Offer

This has been one of the best campgrounds I’ve stayed in during my two years full-timing. $50 a night is steep, but it comes with a lot. Full hook up sites that are quite spacious and level. Rigorously cleaned restrooms and showers - the best I’ve seen. Card operated laundry. A salt water pool overlooking the river. Lots of greenery to walk my dog.

As a bonus, they have river cruises that leave directly from the office. These two hours cruises offer drinks and feature live music from local bands for only $16 per person. Definitely check it out.

Only downside is I don’t have great service from my particular spot which is nestled in the very back of the campground. I work full time so this is a little frustrating, but you can get better service near the front of the park. Just pick your site accordingly

Relaxing river site right in the big city.

We absolutely loved and will return to Steamboat park. Everything you could want in a campground and more! We visited in May in order to go to the Tulip festival in nearby Holland, MI. This park is secluded yet only a few miles from shopping and all Grand Rapids has to offer

SiteWe were on #2. My husband could just walk right into the river and fish.

Cute place on the river

This campground is out of the way right on the river. Great place to fish. They are expanding and adding more spots as well. The have full hookup and WiFi. The pool sits looking right over the river. The also really awesome thing about this park is that it is year round. Year round parks are so hard to find in Michigan. This one is awesome. Great spots in the trees and also back in spots right on the river. The only issue we had was the smell of sewer every once in a while. But the park owners were fixing it up and everything else was great. Really cute park with great prices on the river.

Quirky good campground

This is a quirky little campground tucked away along a large river. It's not large, but half of the sites are directly on a wide fast moving river.  Occasionally a paddleboat goes buy with tourists.  You can fish there, but it's mostly catfish.  The river is pretty, but has brownish water, and I would swim in it.  Beautiful to drink your morning coffee by the water!  They have a small but well maintained pool and playground for the kids.  Their shower and laundry facilities are bright and clean.  We stayed here as a home base for exploring Grand Rapids, which is only a 30 minute drive from the campground.  Would recommend staying here, particularly for folks who like the quiet.
