Paddle boats, kayaks, and canoes are available to rent right on Otter Lake, making water recreation the main draw at this privately run campground about five minutes outside Munising. The lake has a small beach area, and the forested sites surrounding it sit within the Hiawatha National Forest. Cell service is essentially absent here, which several reviewers flag as worth knowing before arrival, though the on-site activities tend to fill the gap.
Cleanliness comes up consistently across reviews. The bathhouse draws frequent praise, and the tankless water heater means hot showers are reliably available. Laundry facilities and a utility sink for washing dishes are also on-site. "The sites were decent sized and clean," notes Amie L., though she also points out that some sites lack clear boundaries, which can lead to crowding when neighbors spread out. Tent sites in particular run close together; RV sites with electric and water hookups tend to have more room.
The staff earns consistent mention across multiple visits and years. Owners have provided gear loaners, local recommendations, and transportation assistance to guests in a pinch. A small store is on-site. The campground also has a basketball court, volleyball court, and playground, which makes it a workable base for families. For paddlers and anglers, the lake itself is the main feature. Campers planning to visit Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore use this location as a staging point, given its proximity to Munising.
The season runs May 1 through November 1, with rates between $20 and $38 per night depending on site type. Reservations are available and worth booking ahead during summer. Wi-Fi is spotty according to recent reviews, so plan accordingly. Campers looking for campgrounds around Wetmore will find additional options in the surrounding area if Otter Lake is full.
