Otter Lake Campground & Lodge

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Paddle boats, kayaks, and canoes are available to rent right on Otter Lake, making water recreation the main draw at this privately run campground about five minutes outside Munising. The lake has a small beach area, and the forested sites surrounding it sit within the Hiawatha National Forest. Cell service is essentially absent here, which several reviewers flag as worth knowing before arrival, though the on-site activities tend to fill the gap.

Cleanliness comes up consistently across reviews. The bathhouse draws frequent praise, and the tankless water heater means hot showers are reliably available. Laundry facilities and a utility sink for washing dishes are also on-site. "The sites were decent sized and clean," notes Amie L., though she also points out that some sites lack clear boundaries, which can lead to crowding when neighbors spread out. Tent sites in particular run close together; RV sites with electric and water hookups tend to have more room.

The staff earns consistent mention across multiple visits and years. Owners have provided gear loaners, local recommendations, and transportation assistance to guests in a pinch. A small store is on-site. The campground also has a basketball court, volleyball court, and playground, which makes it a workable base for families. For paddlers and anglers, the lake itself is the main feature. Campers planning to visit Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore use this location as a staging point, given its proximity to Munising.

The season runs May 1 through November 1, with rates between $20 and $38 per night depending on site type. Reservations are available and worth booking ahead during summer. Wi-Fi is spotty according to recent reviews, so plan accordingly. Campers looking for campgrounds around Wetmore will find additional options in the surrounding area if Otter Lake is full.

Amazing spot

This park is just far enough out of town to make you feel you are in nature. The owners is so sweet and helped us with a lot of local info. Otter the Dog was being lazy Better showers than at home with tankless water heater so always hot water. Big sink so you can wash your dishes. All different kind of hookups spot. We took a rustic #5 , small spots but a cozy spot. I would so go back

Great overnight

Great campground for an overnight stay. The lake is beautiful, and the sites are wooded and nicely spaced on the back of the main loop. The owners were friendly and informative. Just be advised there’s no cell service, and the WiFi is a bit spotty. Other than that, we would definitely return if ever in the area again.

Great campground

Great little campground with lots to do for the kids (swimming, boat rentals, basketball). Very close to Munising. Bathrooms are really clean, although my pre-teen daughter says it’s critical to note the shower stalls don’t lock. Camp sites a little close together, but not bad. We will definitely return.

Beautiful, Remote Campground!

Otter Lake Campground was gorgeous and relaxing. The campground is remote, nestled in Hiawatha National Forest.

The owners were extremely friendly and helpful during our stay.

No cell service, but there is plenty to do to stay busy!

Bathrooms and showers were very clean and nice. Only complaint is that the shower doors don't have locks so it was difficult to know if they were occupied.

9/21/20- 9/23/20; $25/night; #43 electric

Was a great jumping point.

Went on a week long trip through the U.P. This was our first stop coming from Detroit. We had a tent site. Showers and bathrooms were clean. Was about 5 minutes outside Munising. Great place to stay if your planning on visiting pictured rocks. It’s right on the lake too with boat rentals if you just want to hang around your campsite. Friendly staff. Laundry facilities. Only thing we didn’t care for was tent sites were kinda right on top of each other. But had larger sites for RVs and electric hook ups. Again just stayed for the one night to jump to the porcupine mountains.

A Beautiful, Clean Campground

Otter Lake Campground is nestled within the Hiawatha National Forest and a close driving distance to Munising, Michigan. There are a variety of activities available within the campground to keep kids and adults busy. This includes paddle boat, kayak, and canoe rentals, a basketball court, a small playground, a volleyball court, and swimming.

The staff are extremely helpful and polite. We had car trouble and had to go without a vehicle for a day and a half. The staff not only offered transportation but also checked on us multiple times to make sure we didn't need anything.

The scenery is beautiful and peaceful. Otter Lake is a calm, serene lake with a small beach area.

The sites were decent sized and clean. Excellent for the price.

There is an on-site laundry room and place to wash dishes.

The downsides to this campground were small. The showers were clean but didn't have locks on them. There also wasn't a place to set things down, which made it difficult to get dressed and undressed.

Some of the sites were not well defined. This caused a problem when our neighbors sprawled out and squished us.

Great small campfround

The people there were very helpful. We forgot to bring extension cord and they had one for us to use for the weekend. It is a small campground but had fun things to do for the kids. There are kayaks and canoes you can rent and a fun playground for the kids. Bathrooms were pretty clean
