General: 61 site campground; 11 are 20/30/50 amp pull-thru sites and the rest are back-in 20/30 amp. A surprise was seeing so many seagulls and they were, although annoying, also quite entertaining!
Site Quality: All sites are dirt/grass and level. The sites are close together with very little to no privacy separating them.
Bath/Shower: In addition to men’s and women’s restrooms, there are two all-gender shower rooms and two family restrooms with shower. Except for dead bugs, they were clean. The shower was very nice– spacious and had good hot water, although there was almost always a wait to use one.
Activities/Amenities: We camped here to take a self-guided tour of the ghost town, which took about two hours. There are several short-distance interconnecting trails that are mostly well-marked. Be aware, however, that after about a half mile, the Overlook Trail was no longer maintained – the grass was very tall and there was only a narrow footpath; I ended up turning back after going a short distance and seeing that it was not going to improve. There is also a boat harbor. It was quite a juxtaposition between the historical buildings and the loud groups of people partying on their boats!
Once we explored the ghost town (which was very interesting), one night was just enough time for us to spend here, and it looked like many others were doing the same. The campground was completely full on a Saturday in mid-June but by Sunday morning, it had emptied out.

Great open sky site, next to the water. High winds, but local beach trail and historic town a short walk away with additional trails. FYI bathrooms, shower facility, water drops, and water dumpsite closes annually for winterization around Oct. 21. Keep this in mind when booking! Water was shutoff days after. arriving thankfully we filled up jugs before that. Electric and camp wifi on year round. 30A and 20A service at each site, worked fine. We'll be back for the next New Moon!

GuideNew, clean bathrooms and showers. Showers are private and door locks. Campsites are very close together, little privacy. Walking trails that connect the campground to the old Fayette town on the coast are nearby.
GuideStayed here beginning of September for a few days. Site 53 and 54. 53 is nearly at the top of the horseshoe and has trail access to Lake MI. Site 54 starts a series of smaller, back in slot type sites. This stretch of sites was primarily used by overnighters in while we were here, and might be tight for a family to stretch their legs. The campground was pretty quiet, despite being full. The beauty of this campground is the trail access to the beach and lakefront, along with the nice modern bathrooms and showers. One drawback to these particular sites is the wall of invasive cocklebur along the outside, and you would get absolutely covered if you got near them. You can see them in my photo. Note: the lake area near the campground is all rip rap rock, like the white rock in the sunset photo with trees. There is a trail that goes past the boat landing to nice sand beach.

Campsites are pretty close and there is no shade, trees are planted just still very small! Bathroom was nice, shower house a little crusty but not the worst we’ve been too!

Wwhatever do you, find somewhere else. God forbid you have to deal with the same thing we did. Just try calling, you'll see that there is no customer service, so when they over charge you, good luck getting your money back.

Beware! I booked this campground over a year ago. I had to change plans due to family matter which prevented us from visiting this campground. I spoke with Jeff in October and he said not an issue and would refund my money. After multiple phone calls, he still hasnt refunded my money. He is now refusing to take my calls. Jeff is a liar, cheat and dishonest owner that shouldnt be trusted. If he turns this problem around I will update. We visited Gitche Gumee RV Park, no overnight stay. UPDATE: Jeff still refuses to talk to me. He is the worst Campground owner I have come across in my 3 1/2 yrs of full timing.

We wanted to stay here on a rainy stormy day, do some laundry, take hot showers, dump and fill, etc. They are in the Passport America program, so rates are discounted 50%, but they’re actually a few dollars higher than what’s listed in Passport America. A FHU site would be $20 with the discount, so $40 full price.
I’d recommend calling them ahead of time and not the morning of the day you’re looking to stay, like we did (and always do). We had a really hard time getting a hold of someone, but I think they had something going on that day so I don’t want to say that’s the norm. We drove to the campground hoping to just talk to someone in the office, but that didn’t work either. The husband finally called us back but by then we were in the mindset to just leave and go stay at Walmart in Escanaba for free.
The campground is really nice and low key, lots of trees, definitely nothing fancy, it’s dumpy in places, but it’s fine for us. You can get a FHU site or electric only (there is a dump station and water fill). There are also tent sites and cabins.
We had good Verizon service there and ok ATT service. There’s lake access from the campground with a $5 fee, not sure if that’s just for putting in boats though.
Note- check in is 3pm and they are really into their policy of charging $10 for an “early check-in.” There are several signs in the office stating this, and the husband made sure he told us over the phone as well, even though it would have been just an hour early.
RangerAgain, we stayed here for one night on our way elsewhere. We have to come back and make it our destination next time. Clean bathrooms… excellent camp hosts. Weekdays in the fall.. so quiet and peaceful.

GuideI called to see if they had room about 3 weeks out. We were just looking for a weekend stay. Everywhere else was booked so I wasn’t hopeful. The owner answered the phone, even gave me a little background about the place- and was happy to take my booking. He accepted my card over the phone without issue. He did not assign us a site until we arrived however which initially made me nervous. But we ended up with a great spot and we were happy. It is nice and wooded through most of the park. There are several buildings onsite that we didn’t get to peek into due to other plans around the area. We will definitely be back! Something to note: we had zero cell service though att. There was internet supplied in the park, but it disappeared the 2nd morning. I inquired on the internet and was told there wasn’t a problem. We will just plan for that next time.
ScoutTheir policy as stated on their website is no refunds for any reason. I get that, if you can't rent it out to someone else. You should also be making sure to state that when people call to make reservations and then you follow it up in writing in an e-mail along with detailed charges. But, our reservations were not made online and the policy was no stated on the phone and nothing was e-mailed. My parents are elderly and this was to be their last trip before we sold the camper because they no longer get around very well. My mother fell and sustained a serious break to her leg a week before the trip. I called the campground and asked if there was anything they could do about even a partial refund. The woman answering the phone said she would talk to the owner and call back. If they could rent out the space, well maybe we could get my parents almost$400 back. They did not e-mail any kind of receipt. If it couldn't be rented and you didn't want to take that loss as a business, that is understandable. But, they never called back. They just charged the money. We had a friend check out the campground on the nights my parents were to stay there. They rented this spot to someone else each and every night! And, they still charged charged my parents almost $400 for a 4 night stay that they never made claiming they could come back any time this year. That won't be possible since the camper is being sold. I understand no refunds is the policy, but really?! Double dipping like that is a dishonest policy to have. Leading someone to believe you might help them out due to extenuating circumstances and then not doing anything but gouging them without a word is a bad business practice. Renting the space over the phone to an elderly person and never telling them about the policy to begin with or following up with e-mail is also a bad business practice.

We stayed in the upper loop at site 77, it’s far from the rest of the camp and the sites are nicely space out. Immaculate bathrooms and showers. The resort has WiFi but we couldn’t get it at our site. Kids loved the pool. Easy trail access to the mountain bike park! We will likely stay here again
ScoutReserved a spot here as part of my cross country overlanding trip. It was a basic electric campsite outside. I drove into the ahem, campground and the first thing you see are a bunch of prefabbed cabins - pretty cheesy. Went to check in at the lodge. Small bar, and a beer cooler filled with no beer (lol). The girl at front desk was very nice and informative. She gave be about 10 pieces of paperwork and wristbands (really! I’m just camping for the night!!!). Then explained the myriad of rules in order to camp. First o e was no smoking at your outdoor site! Lol. If she found ashes at the site, I would be charged a fine- lol. I asked for my $$ back, but you can’t cancel. What a joke. If you smoke weeed, of if your campfire ash looks like a cigarette ash, you’ll get fined. Avoid this place at all costs if you are vanlife, over landers or partake in the green stuff, this is not the place for you. If your camping approach is Martha Stewart meets kohls, have at it!

The staff at the office gave a helpful map that showed where the local waterfalls are at. There are a lot in the area! The campgrounds aren't anything special and the bathrooms are the nicest. I stayed in a kozy kabin for a night because my camping gear was wet from a storm the night before. Fire pits are provided and wood is for sale on site in the office as well as other necessities. Close to pictured rocks national lakeshore. Definitely go there!

General: Pride of ownership is evident throughout the campground and there are many different types of accommodations: tent, electric and water, (including some classified as prime), full hook-up, cabins, and yurts. There are also seasonal sites and travel trailer rentals. This campground was as busy as I would expect for Door County in the summer. We checked in at the well-staffed office (open until 9 pm) at which time our site was assigned.
Site Quality/Facilities: Since there are so many different kinds of sites, they vary greatly. Our non-hookup site (#104) had an L-shaped driveway which was just a bit awkward to back our campervan into but not impossible. This site would not have been suitable for a large RV. Some of the tent sites in this loop (#111-113) were called “hideaway” tent sites as they had very long driveways and more privacy. Many of the sites are wooded and there is varying separation between sites but more than adequate. The premium sites have the most privacy and many of these have no one behind them.
Bathhouse: There are two bathhouses, and each is closed for a two-hour period each day. They were immaculate (possibly the cleanest campground bathrooms I have ever seen!). The shower, while a bit on the small side, had nice hot water and plenty of hooks to hang clothes and toiletries. They were clean.
Activities/Amenities: The campground itself has much to offer: playground, recreation area with volleyball net, laundry, dishwashing station, fish cleaning station, recreation room with pool table and arcade games, lounge with fireplace, couches, and books, a camp store, and doggie stations. A couple of hiking trails lead from the campground, including one to Grandma’s Swedish Bakery (highly recommend at least one visit). Nearby kayak and SUP rentals. There is much to do in Door County for active and less active pursuits; this campground is located on the quiet side of the peninsula, but it does not take long to drive to other activities.
This is not our typical type of campground. We used to live within two hours of the northern part of the Door Peninsula, so we only took day trips here; camping here is new to us but we are enjoying exploring many different options.
RangerBeautiful park with lots of options to camp lakeside. Many sites are very close together, so if privacy is important… choose wisely. Wonderful camp hosts had hot cocoa and coffee to share… great for a cool morning. We happened to visit during the Halloween celebration weekend… so it was overrun with kids. Not a deal breaker at all… but I think we may have chosen a different park had we known. Neighbors next to us really enjoyed themselves… maybe a bit too much! All said… we would camp there again… but only if we can get a lakeside site.

Bath and shower facilities very new and nice. Spotty phone service. Historic ghost town within walking distance of the campground. Many buildings open during the day with displays of what life was like when the town was occupied. Great history lesson and very interesting. Although town buildings were locked at night, you could still walk the streets. Spooky but fun! Sunsets on the lake are spectacular. Many hiking trails around the park. Not strenuous and fairly short. However, trails could use better markings.
