Best Cabin Camping near Freeport, MI

Cabin accommodations in the Freeport area include rustic and modern options at several established campgrounds. Tyler Creek and Welcome Woods Family Campground both offer cabin rentals with varying amenities including electricity and water access. Many cabins feature comfortable sleeping areas with basic furnishings while maintaining a rustic atmosphere. "The indoor pool was great for the preseason camping! Being there in early May, when it was rainy we were happy to have that amenity," noted one camper about the facilities at Indian Valley Campground. Most cabins include picnic tables outside and are situated near bathroom facilities, though the proximity and cleanliness of these facilities varies by location.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Michawana Campground provides cabin rentals on a seasonal basis from April through October, with some campsites situated along the shoreline of Head Lake. Fort Custer Recreation Area offers year-round cabin rentals alongside other accommodation types. Pets are permitted at most cabin locations including Tyler Creek and Welcome Woods, though restrictions may apply. A visitor commented, "Nice quiet small camp ground. Has lots for kids and families to do," regarding the family-friendly atmosphere at Michawana Campground. Reservation requirements vary by location with most requiring advance booking, especially during summer months.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Basic cooking facilities are typically limited to fire rings or grills outside the cabins, while some more developed units may offer small kitchenettes. On-site camp stores are available at several locations including Tyler Creek, Welcome Woods, and Indian Valley, providing basic supplies and firewood. Camp Michawana includes boat and kayak rentals with cabin stays when lifeguards are on duty. Bathrooms with showers are typically centrally located rather than in individual cabins. Proximity to the Thornapple River at Indian Valley provides additional recreational opportunities for cabin guests.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp Resort-South Haven, MI

This is my top pick for South Haven

Although this campground has great amenities, a pool, clean showers, and good sites/cabins, it is hard to book. If you know you are going to come to this area and camp, you need to book it a while in advance. I have used a pop-up and there was good space between campers. When I tent camped, we had a great spot near the cafe, the showers are amazing over there, they are more secluded. Our tent spot had electric, water, picnic table and fire ring. We camped on the grass and there is gravel to park your car. This campground is a perfect place to stay when visiting surrounding towns and going to the beach.

Don’t forget to go to Sherman’s!!

There was a forecast or rain, don’t mind the tarp

    Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground

    Beautiful Park

Rangers working the area are very friendly. Many options to choose from in terms of camping, from rustic, tent to fully functional cabin lodging. The park is very large, so it is always good to have a vehicle able to drive to the trails and beach. Campsites are decent sized, can fit probably 3 four person tents per site, which includes a concrete firepit and picnic table. In the north campsites there is a lot of tree covering, and there are a lot of walnut trees that were shedding a lot this time of the year. Bathrooms are well spaced between the campsites you, and have showers along with some vending machines outside of them. Spigots are scattered throughout and are very accessible. Be sure to bring at least 100 feet of extension chord if you want electricity, because the power ports are not as accessible from some areas. Overall very pleasant campground.

    Oak Grove Resort & Campground

Great RV Resort close to Lake Michigan

Clean family friendly RV Resort. Pool, hot tub, modern restrooms and showers, playground, laundry and bike rentals. I believe all the sites are full hookup, cable t.v. and wi/fi. Less than a mile to Lake Michigan and close to boat launch and Lake Macatawa.

    Cold Brook County Park

    Nice little county park!

29 campsites pretty close together with old growth trees interspersed around the campground. Fishing pier and boating, playground area, and beach. No longer has primitive camping. Some hiking trails...short. is next to a busy road, so traffic all night. Staff was great! Showers and bathrooms cleaned multiple times a day. Pet friendly. Would stay here again!

    East Lake Camping

    Great Hospitality

Nice and cozy little campground in the middle of beautiful rolling farmlands. First time passing through and found it conveniently located within 40 mins of Holland and Saugatuck without needing to get on the highway. The woman at check in was extremely courteous and helpful. We stayed 2 nights over the weekend. Most people here are seasonal, occupying almost all the lakefront sites. We may have seen one lakefront available for renters. Everyone was polite, friendly and quiet after quiet hours. The sites are very small, not much privacy, but well kept. There are more spacious sites available on the upper grassy loop. Well kept grounds throughout with beautiful flowers. The bathrooms were wonderful with great hot water and water pressure. Pretty lake with swimming beach and playground lovely for day use. We would stay again. We stayed with 34’ camper inner lakefront.  I did share a picture of waterfront sites, the one vacant spot is the only site available to rent right now.  The rest are seasonal.

    Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground

    Absolutely great time!

Walk-in site F was literally the perfect campsite. Fully secluded (except a few curious hikers who stopped in around lunchtime), easy 1 mile walk from parking lot, can kayak right up to it on the calm lake, hammock posts, picnic table, fire pit, gorgeous night sky views. A+ and 10/10

    Tyler Creek

Give them at least a weekend!

Campground is small but got to know owners just recently purchased last year and are on the uphill of making this a great little place. Great customer service and friendly faces. Other families we met at the pool were super friendly and inviting like we had been coming here for years. Bathrooms, crafts shed and such are a little run down but again optimistic that this new family will do great things. Weekend golf cart rentals for 90 bucks which is a steal! Also the clubhouse for the golf course has a little common area with games and tv plus the bar makes great and cheap drinks which is a fun things for the adults to do! Great little family park, quiet and small but worth at least a weekend!

Hidden Ridge RV Resort, A Sun RV Resort

    Large RV resort!

We had a great time camping at Hidden Ridge. Amenities were great, everything well kept and clean. This park is very big. Seems to have a lot of seasonal campers there but still spots for the vacationers too. The pool was nice, and the playground very fun for kids. Sunday morning they have Cinnamon Roll delivery to your campsite! Only a couple of negatives to report there isn’t much close the the campground at all. Like the closest gas station is 15 miles. Not really any fast food restaurants either. Obviously not a deal breaker, but just something to be prepared for. And there is a snack bar at the campground, but for other things you’ll have to go further out. Second, I found it odd the there isn’t trash pickup at the site. And the only trash bin we could find was at the entrance of the grounds (which was quite a distance from 241 our site). Just seems places this big and at this price range offer trash pick up at the site. Again, not a deal breaker but just a nuisance I guess. Would definitely recommend and would return to stay if in the area.

    Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground

I know another great Michigan State Park

What can I say, I love the Michigan State Parks.  I find they are the best, Sleepy Hollow is not different and it has so many things to do.  I would advise if you want to camp there on a weekend to make reservations well in advance.  We stay here because there are only 2 campgrounds in the Lansing East Lansing Area this being one of them and the other does not have all full hook ups and charges more.  When we visit our daughter at Michigan State University this is the place we stay,  20 - 30 minutes into the University depending upon the traffic.

It has large wooded sites only electric but you can fill up the water at the dump station.  Each site has a picnic table and Fire ring.  Each campsite has a asphalt pad. They sell fire wood at the campground office. Bring what you need or you can go into St. johns to the Kroger or Walmart.  they have 2 main camping loops with 2 loops in each of the main loops and a shower restroom in each main loop.  The restrooms are very clean and kept up.  I love the showers  hot water and for me that is hot and great pressure, I could shower all day.  Sure beats our shower in the RV.

The State Park is on Ovid Lake and it is a beautiful lake, great for fishing, canoeing, paddle boards, kayak, and swimming. they have a shelter for you if you have a big party.

They also have a group campsite and a picnic area for large groups. d You can also bring your horses go to the Equestrian area and unload and get on the trail.

You can rent canoes, kayaks, paddle boats and paddle boards.  They also have a great play ground for the kids and a fishing pier. Bring Bikes or just hike on the trails and head down to the beach.
