The campground features picnic tables and fire rings at each site, making it easy to settle in for a cozy evening under the stars. Easy access to north central bike path

This campground is right on the north central bike path and I came to this here for that easy access. However, it is right next to the road and there is a lot of road noise during the day and early evening. It did quiet down overnight. Being next to the road also gives easy access to nearby attractions like Indian River. If you're looking for a camp site to sit around and relax during the day, this is probably not the place for you.The camp sites are spread out and many offer complete privacy. Most are shaded. The campground is only 2 miles from I 75 and is an excellent spot if you need a campsite just to stop over.

Rustic campground

Stayed here Labor Day weekend. It was my first time staying at a State Forest campground; it has the basics like a hand pump for water, pit toilets and a dumpster. Site 12 had a spot for my hammock. Watch out for poison ivy. The only downside is that other campers don't know how to behave at night. They think karaoke and screaming at their domestic partner at 1:42 am is acceptable.

Quiet and Easy Access

Stayed in site 4. Very quiet and isolated from other camp spots. Fire ring and picnic table. Pit toilets and fresh water via hand pump. Just two miles off I-75 at Wolverine.

Nice place to bed down for the night

Nice, quiet campground just off of I-75. Sites all seemed private and comfortable. I was just passing through, so didn’t see much of the area. This would be a nice alternative to the busier campgrounds near Indian River, Burt Late, etc.

See Elk in Michigan!

This was a really awesome campground we found kind of last minute when things didn’t work out at the other place we were trying to camp, and we were not upset about it at all. We actually we’re happy our plans fell through, because the site was better than the one we were trying to get at another park. You can’t beat $15 a night, each rustic site is fairly secluded with privacy, and you’re right by Michigan’s only area to view free roaming wild elk! We went and tried, but unfortunately didn’t see any elk. I think it was mostly due to my 7 and 10 year old talking too much, and being too loud, but we’re just glad they enjoy the hike! We’d camp here again, and we recommend it to you, too! You’re also within striking distance of the Call of the Wild museum in Gaylord, which I high recommend, as well!

Beautiful campground

Right on the sturgeon river you get away from the main camps of Burt lake and mullet lake. An easy drive to wolverine and a couple hour float back to camp or drive to Indian River and go to the lakes.

Lots of trees and room between. Sites room and level. Bathroom is pit toliet but clean.
