Reservations are available year-round at North Higgins Lake State Park Campground, with nightly rates running $36 to $80 depending on hookup configuration. The campground accommodates rigs up to 95 feet and provides full electric, water, and sewer hookups, making it a practical base for RV travelers exploring the Higgins Lake area. Tent campers are welcome too, though the dirt-and-sand mix at many sites means ground-level setups can get messy after activity. Pets are allowed throughout.
The campground sits within a forested stretch of the state park, with heavily wooded sites that provide a reasonable buffer between neighbors despite the high site density. It is a busy place, particularly on summer weekends, with large family groups, bikes, and boat trailers a common sight. Several sites back directly up to the woods, offering more separation than average. Site 101 gets specific mention from reviewers for privacy, and sites near the bathhouses are convenient but may be affected by periodic closures. One consistent concern worth noting: a busy road runs alongside part of the campground, and road noise carries through the night on some sites.
The lake is the main draw. Christie L. notes "easy access to the water from everywhere thanks to groomed paths," and the sandy beach, with its clear, cold water, sees heavy use from swimmers and families with young children. Kayak and paddleboard rentals are available on site. Anglers have fishing access, and the nearby Mason Tract offers river paddling as a worthwhile day trip.
Bathrooms and showers receive generally positive marks for cleanliness, though conditions can vary by season. Cell coverage on AT&T has been reported as spotty. Weekday stays tend to run quieter than weekends. For campgrounds around Higgins Lake with different crowd levels or configurations, nearby alternatives include Higgins Lake-Roscommon KOA and Northern Nights Campground, both within a few miles to the southeast.
Campers who come for the lake and plan around the road noise tend to leave satisfied enough to return.
