Beaufort Lake State Forest Campground

Kayakers and anglers can access Beaufort Lake directly from their campsites at this small state forest campground in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The campground sits right on the lake's shoreline with a boat launch and small beach area for water activities. Bald eagles frequent the area, flying between the lake and a beaver pond across the road, while local waterfowl often approach campsites.

The 20-site campground operates as a typical state forest facility with vault toilets, a hand pump for water, and no electrical hookups. Sites accommodate RVs up to 20 feet and allow campfires and pets. Richie C. notes the campground is "kinda just 'there'" with limited privacy between sites and minimal tree coverage. The ground can become muddy during wet conditions.

Campers report the facility stays relatively uncrowded, with only a few sites typically occupied on weekends. Cell coverage allows for satellite internet connections, and the vault toilets are newer installations. The $20 nightly fee requires no advance reservations. For additional camping options in the region, visitors can explore places to camp near Michigamme or check out Craig Lake State Park Campground three miles north. This works best for campers wanting lakefront access without amenities.

A basic state forest campground that guests commonly noted for cleanliness but lacks privacy with wide open sites. Several reviews mentioned it's suitable mainly for quick overnight stops rather than extended stays.

Clean State Forest campground w/ great views

What you would expect of a Michigan SF campground: vault toilets, no hookups, hand pump, no reservations, $20/night. The outhouses are new and the sites are right on Beaufort Lake. There is a boat launch and small beach area. We did some kayaking and saw multiple Bald Eagles - they would fly over the sites from the lake to the beaver pond across the street. Local ducks were very welcoming and came right up to us. There was a beautiful sunset one night we stayed. Not too busy, only 3 or 4 campsites were filled over the weekend. We stayed connected by running Starlink off of a battery (very fast, no interruptions)

Nice spot for car camping. About it though.

Like previous reviews say, this place is kinda just “there”...

Absolutely no privacy between sites, hardly any tree cover, ground was thick mud when I arrived. Not to mention the lake access isn’t really enjoyable.

If you wanna pay for a spot to sleep in your car- that’s about all this place is good for.

Good Pit Stop

This is a nice clean campground if you’re looking for a quick overnight on your way to a better destination. The sites are wide open with no privacy.

Meh!

Pretty ok for the traveling camper. Very small. Worthy of a one night stay if you’re on the go. No trees and no privacy.
