Penobscot Bay is the deepest body of water in the Gulf of Maine…and I live at its shores with my husband Steven, father Zaven, a flock of sheep and goats, three hives of honey bees, extensive gardens and lots of space to make art and good food.

Together we run a family campground that was established in 1965 and steward the land…we provide a place for people to come and relax, wander through the organic gardens, explore the beach and re-connect with themselves and others. We’re proud to be part of the working waterfront of Maine where recreation, fishing and shipping ply the same waters and provide a sense of purpose for all sorts of people.

The sites are on the grounds of our functioning animal preserve. We are very close to Mt Desert Island and Acadia National Park. Suitable for tents, rvs(without hook ups) or just to sleep in the car style camping. Call us and tell us what your camping style is so we get you into the right spot. For the most private sites, we suggest Raw and Rough, also on our property. We also have Cadillac Mountain View Loft and Hammocks for those who like a little more comfort. This is very basic no frills camping. We may allow Winter camping depending on the weather and your understanding that there will be no water available. Camping With Wolves

We offer both wooded and open sites that can accommodate most rigs. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, water, 30 or 50-amp electrical service, and most offer sewer. Groups and tent campers are welcome.

RV & TRAVEL TRAILER CAMPING

Our campgrounds offer a variety of full hook-up sites (water, electric and sewer) and water/electric only sites. We can accommodate 30-amp and 50-amp needs. Many of our campsites have cable and wi-fi services.

Spacious Skies Balsam Woods has 3 deluxe cabins (with bathroom and kitchen) and 3 rustic cabins for your renting pleasure

TENT CAMPING

For your short term adventures, we offer spots to pitch your tent that are either standard rustic or with basic hook ups.


Our campground has direct trail access to approximately 1,000 miles of ATV trails as designated by the Maine Bureau of Parks and Land. You can ride to Greenville on Moosehead Lake, Jackman, The Forks, Rockwood, Bingham, and Cambridge, all from the campground! We are also less than a minute away driving from Piper Pond, a 2 mile long lake with public boat launch and beach access.

Onsite, we have a camp store and snack bar stocked with necessities, treats and goodies for the whole family, a heated pool, classic rec hall, and playground. We have three cozy rustic cabins as well as three deluxe cabins for those wanting to experience the beauty of the great outdoors but who may not be ready for the tenter or RV life!

A tranquil site in open and blossoming blueberry barrens, come later in the summer to pick your own fresh off the vine! This location is relatively remote- a(in parts really) rough dirt road leads to my property which comprises 12 acres surrounded by/looking across hundreds of acres of other family members' blueberry barrens- perfect for those wanting a private and peaceful retreat! Beautiful views of Blue Hill mountain, great sun(and sometimes moon!) rises and sunsets, and your own personal planetarium on clear(best on the new moon) nights! On the same road as(5 min from) Kingdom Woods Conservation Area(800 acre area with peaceful trails and a pond), 10 minutes from Blue Hill town center and its amenities(YMCA- hot showers, Tradewind's/Coop supermarkets,) and nature mountain(hiking!) and its Bay(swimming!), 20-30 minutes from Holbrook Island Sanctuary, the historic Castine waterfront, the quaint finishing villages of Deer Isle and Stonington, and 45 minutes to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park! Discover Downeast Maine away from the crowds, at your very own quiet blueberry base!

Choose from three tranquil sites spread across a homestead comprising 50+ acres of forest and open and blossoming blueberry barrens! Catch stunning sunrises and sunsets(and moon rises if you're lucky!). Look up on a clear(especially on new moon) night to experience your private planetarium. Share the space with deer, turkey, fox, and an array of birds if you look out for them! SITE 1 is closest to(~1/8 mile behind) the family home, and features a larger stone firepit. This site is great for cars, and for those looking to be a bit more nestled closer to the forest. Also, if you want a more interactive experience, we are happy to join you at the fire and give local recommendations! SITE 2 is farther into the field(but still totally accessible for all vehicles by dirt road), offers its own brick firepit, and a nice, wide parking/tenting area beside a beautiful birch tree. The views are more open across the blueberry barrens. Recommended for those with larger vehicles(easier parking/turning), or those looking for a more remote retreat.
