Lily Bay State Park - Dunn Point Campground

The fact that we had water access from our campsite makes this a 5-star experience for me. Sites were private enough and showers were available, although the "comfort station" is about a mile walk away from the campsites. The electrical outlets didn't work in any of the bathrooms, either, so bringing a blowdryer was useless. But that's just a minor inconvenience--everything else was great.

I was nervous at first when I pulled up in a camper van--the "campground" was very much geared towards seasonal campers in large RVs. However, I was able to grab one of just a couple open spots on a Thursday afternoon. The staff (and residents) were so friendly and helpful. There were restrooms with coin-op showers and also a laundry room. Knocked off one star for the lack of privacy between sites and for the price ($70+ for essentially a parking spot with water/electricity is a bit much imo--at least make the showers free! lol)

Dead River Access on Long Falls Dam Road

          Beautiful location on the river

The main camping area has about 10 long narrow sites that have large rocks bordering each site. Each site is bordered by the road. There is a single vaulted toilet.

The paved area of the road ends just past the campground. Lots of people drive just past the pavement and then they turn around.

Across the road from the campground is a beautiful river. The sound of the river put us to sleep and greeted us the next morning.

          Absolutely Wonderful

My large family and I spent a week here. First, the campground is easy to find and making reservations is a snap! The owners are two of the greatest people I’ve met. They are more than friendly and accommodating. They work hard keeping the entire property neat including the bathhouse. Honestly, it’s the cleanest bathroom/shower house I’ve seen. There is a playground for kids and plenty of room at each site for them to play. My family and I agree, this place is incredible and you would be foolish to go elsewhere.

Ugh, why would you stay here

This is worse than a rest area on the Jersey pike.  The area consists of a bunch of pull-ins in an old gravel pit, and two semiprivate spots that are essentially pull offs from the pavement.

No service, no water, no electricity, 1 pit toilet.

          On a paved road

20+ miles to the nearest town

          Pack in Pack out.

There was one spot open, and I decided not to stay due to the sound of generators and the site being right on the paved road.

          Very clean and well kept.

We were there for 3 nights, everything was very clean and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. I'd definitely try to go for the premium sites as they are more wooded.

          Piscataquis Point

A hidden gem in central Maine

Spent a night at Piscataquis Point and had a great time! This was a very quiet and peaceful place but easily accessible from multiple directions and only like 20 mins from I-95. This spacious area has all the amenities covered allowing you to unplug and unwind like you’re in the middle of nowhere, the handcrafted touches from the outhouse to the fire pit add a   unique, welcoming and comfortable feel. Sitting next to a warm, crackling fire listening to the sound of the river was truly the cherry on top and made for a very relaxing evening. This spot is somewhat of a hidden gem, clean and well up kept, this is the type of place that you’ll want to revisit again and again.

          How Camping Should Be

We have loved Katahdin Iron Works for a long time, it really is how camping should be. No hookups/power/water. Bring everything in and bring everything back out with you. There are outhouses near the pleasant river sites. Last time we were up there the rule was no units over 44' total with truck and camper. These sites really are best for tents or very small campers.

          Awesome New Campground

Moose Creek RV Resort is in a great location in Greenville, close to town and to ATV trails. A good amount of ATV parking across the street.

The amenities are all brand new and beautiful, including the pool side bar. The sides are spacey and range from field sites to wooded more private sites.

We love Lone Jack and area camping!

We have tent camped in several of the sites 4X in the past 3 years.  10/28/23 was last visit for the year.  We never see many trucks or people.  The sites are quiet, peaceful, very clean and outhouses are always in excellent condition.  We thank the folks who care so well for the sites.  We got there in a compact SUV 3 years ago, but go by truck now.  The road in off the Capital Road has deteriorated a fair amount in past year, due to rains, we believe.  Don't make the trip if you expect good roads, but if you like logging roads, this area is wonderful.

          Branch Lake Camping area

Wonderful campground and a beautiful lake

This is a hidden gem. We really enjoyed this campground and the good people staying there. I would go back and stay longer next time.

We stayed 7 nights in site # 24. We had water & electric and there is a dump station onsite. Our site was waterfront we were right off the beach. The site was level and had some shade. If you have a small camper you can pull in forward and your door opens to the water. I couldn't pull in I had to back in yet having the dinette overlooking the lake was nice. Everyone was so nice and helpful. The lake has 26.5 miles perimeter  and a maximum depth of 124'. We had loons come in close to our site. Saw an Eagle too.

We sat our chairs in the water and cooled down everyday and floated on our noodles. Great relaxing place.

The owners Shawn and Margaret do a nice job maintaining the campground and enjoy taking a dip at the swim beach like the rest of us.

There is a playground, a nice area to keep kayaks if your not on the water.  There were adirondack chairs along the beach and the nice grassy area overlooking the lake. There are boat docks for smaller boats and some floating docks you can swim out to and enjoy.

There is a small store where the office is and a group bonfire pit every evening many of the people gather there.

There are some seasonal sites some are set up so nice.

They offer a pump out service twice a week which is nice.

The town of Ellsworth  has everything you need. Walmart, home depot, the Global beverage store, laundry places, and best of all Martha's Diner. The best eggs benedict with ham. Shawn recommended it.  Bangor isn't far either.

There is a vintage/antiques place called Relics that has great finds.

Dorr Lobster and seafood market serves lobster & crab rolls and sells fresh seafood. We bought some cooked, picked lobster meat and made lobster Alfredo for dinner.  Very tasty!

Finn's Irish pub is good to. we had a good meal there it's on Main street. My husband had corned beef and cabbage I had Shepherds pie.

We found a great mobile Repairman that fixed our slide out while we were there. It broke the 2nd week of June and we couldn't find anyone to fix it. His name is Chris Burbelo his number is (207) 322-4526. He did a great job it was a cable slide and we'd had the motor & gear replaced before we left florida. It wasn't bolted to the wall correctly & it tore from the wall broke the chains and the cables all went slack. We spent 2 months with the slide stuck in. Chris works at a RV place in service and does side work on his spare time. He did several things for us and did a great job. Worth a million!

Thank you Shawn and Margaret for the great experience and Chris B for fixing our slide out.

I love to visit Lake Saint George! As a state park it’s nice and clean and offers several comforts like a bathhouse with flushing toilets and showers. There is a day park for swimming with a life guard and an impressive playground for little ones. A lot of the campsites are waterfront and flat for tents. Very peaceful at night listening to the loons.

          Cool spot

This is a great backcountry spot! But you will need a vehicle with 4x4 and decent ground clearance. The road in takes you down atv trails and there is a hill that has a very steep incline that’s pretty washed out. Very easy to bottom out of you don’t know what you’re doing. I did it in a lifted Silverado but I recommend overland/jeep style vehicles as the rocks are big for Maine and you can easily damage your vehicle. Site itself is gorgeous with beautiful scenery and lots of wildlife.

More than an RV parking lot

This site, newly opened in the spring of 2022, shows tremendous promise for an RV resort.  The owners put a lot of careful thought into the layout of the individual sites, planting trees that in a few years will provide a screen between individual sites.  The next phase, due to be opened in 2023, already has individual campsites roughed out carefully into the existing tree cover, looks awesome even now.  While a boondocker at heart I would happily stay here again.

Lily Bay State Park is a great facility.  Most of their sites offer shade.  While the sites do not provide RV hookup ability, there is a dump station on site.  The tenting only sites are premier locations; large and generously spaced.  Almost all of the campsites are spaced well, with screening between them.  The facilities are well maintained.   This was real pleasure to visit in leaf peeping season!

Nice place, but DIY is better

This is a pretty well appointed place to stay in Greenville, especially during the off season. We were there in October and it was not totally empty, but pleasantly quiet compared to what I imagine the summer months must be.

Looking at the prices, bear in mind that if you are self-contained either in an RV or in a car and tent, you can easily drive up into the woods and disperse camp . That also gives you direct access to the ATV trails in addition to more privacy and a better close to nature experience. Saw a lot of people doing this happily as I was exploring the logging roads north out of town.
