Lake Jericho Recreation Area

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Cash is required at check-in. No credit cards are accepted, so arriving unprepared can delay setup. Lake Jericho Recreation Area sits in Henry County near Smithfield, a county-managed campground with full hookups (electric, water, and sewer) ranging from $24 to $34 per night. The campground has gravel sites and tent sites positioned near the lake's edge, with access to a dump station, picnic tables, and a bathhouse that reviewers describe as dated but functional. Note that pets are not permitted.

Road access gets mixed mentions in reviews. The route in can be rough, so drivers with low-clearance vehicles or large rigs should factor that in. The campground has a significant number of long-term residents, which shapes the atmosphere. A couple of reviewers flag that the permanent sites can look cluttered, while others note that the resident community tends to be welcoming, with neighbors inviting visiting campers into holiday gatherings.

Fishing draws repeat visitors. Bank fishing along the lake is accessible and straightforward, and the water is the clearest draw for families with kids. Carolynn K. notes the tent sites on the lake "would be nice for a family with kids." Quietness is another consistent mention, though crowding during holiday weekends is worth anticipating. Also worth knowing: as of early 2026, the campground was temporarily closed for renovation, so confirming current operating status before arrival is advisable. This spot works best for RV campers with full hookups in mind and anglers who want water within walking distance of their site.

Good people

They are currently closed for renovation. We showed up needing some rest and the owner found us a place to park for the night. Will definitely come back when they reopen. It's a beautiful area.

Local, serene, family-oriented facility

My family and I enjoyed this peaceful, nature spot in Henry Co to celebrate our 4th of July holiday weekend. The hubby and kids enjoyed easily accessible bank fishing while I was able to kick back and read a book by the beautiful, serene lake. The residents in the campground were extremely welcoming and invited us to their campground Independence Day festivities. The staff was very nice and took pride in their establishment. We will definitely be back to this local gem!!

Lots of permanent residents

We stayed here 2 nights as a shake down trip. Bring cash, no credit cards taken. We didn't have enough with us, but the Manager let us set up and Hubby went back home and got some cash. We live less then 15 mins from the park. It was very quiet. Even the local kids were nice and respectful.  We did take a walk around the park and the lake is beautiful. It was hot during our stay, so we didn't go to the fishing area. The bath house is old and could really use an update. The gentleman who cleaned it every morning spent about 10 mins just spraying a mystery liquid around. Smelled like bleach.  The site was gravel. There are tent sites on the lake and that would be nice for a family with kids.

Private Campground with nice small lake

It’s a private campground with mostly permanent residents. Nice small pond and I hear the fishing is good. The first day here I went to the bathroom/shower and they were dirty-so I didn’t use either and decided to only use the facilities in my RV. Today I was outside and needed to go to the restroom, they were much cleaner this time. Old but cleaner. Staff at the campground seemed nice and friendly.
