Two miles outside Cresco, Vernon Springs Turkey River County Park operates as a Howard County facility with recently upgraded infrastructure. The campground provides electric and water hookups alongside standard amenities including restrooms, showers, and a dump station for RV travelers.
Walking and biking trails wind through the property, connecting to the nearby Turkey River where a boat launch accommodates kayaks and canoes. A nature center sits on-site, and the seasonal operation runs from May through October. Campers can explore places to camp near Cresco for year-round alternatives. Reservations are accepted, and pets are welcome throughout the grounds.

From HWY 9 in Cresco at the west set of stop lights, go south on 3rd St. W one block, take a right onto 4th Ave SW, and take the next left onto Vernon Road. Stay on Vernon Road. It will change into Valley Avenue. You will see the Prairie's Edge Nature Center on the east side (left side) of the road about 2 miles south of Cresco. Come into the driveway and go to the left when the driveway forks.
