MacNider Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Swimming access at the adjacent city pool and multiple playgrounds within walking distance make MacNider Campground a practical base for families moving through north-central Iowa. Set inside Margaret MacNider Park along a river corridor in Mason City, the campground sits closer to urban infrastructure than its tree cover suggests. One reviewer noted the setting reads more like a wooded retreat than a city park, even though downtown Mason City is less than two miles away. Campers exploring places to camp around Mason City will find this one among the more developed options in the area, with full hookups available for rigs up to 50 feet.

Sites run $12 to $26 per night depending on hookup level, with electric and water connections included at the lower end and sewer service priced separately. "Quiet, clean and decent size lots," notes Tim Z., who compared it favorably to parking-lot-style campgrounds. The ground is well-kept, staff has been described as friendly and helpful, and a 43-foot rig has fit without issue. Crowds stay manageable even in late June, with reviewers noting plenty of available sites during that period.

East Park sits just across the river, adding trails and open green space to the immediate area. Mason City Campground is another nearby option for campers who want to compare. The season runs April 15 through October 15, and amenities include showers, WiFi, a dump station, and drinking water. If a tree-lined city stopover with full hookups and easy access to park facilities fits your itinerary, this one is worth a look.

Better than free camping

Quiet, clean and decent size lots.

This Campground sits among a sleepy country city… however with the trees and the setting, you would never know.

The cost is $20 per night for electric and water. Sewer cost extra.

Would stay here 100 times over any type of lot docking and many other campsites that look like parking lot.

It’s a home run stay here!

Pretty good

Was a quick stop. Surprised when we pulled up it was only $19 a night for only electric & $28 for full hook ups. We came in the end of June & it is not too busy. Still plenty of parking. There is a community pool right beside the camp.

Quaint city campground

This campground is fairly small but fits our 43’ rig well. The ground and well kept and staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. There is a nice playground on site plus the city pool is right next door. There are also awesome parks within walking distance. If we ever come through this area again we will definitely be staying here!

Peace in the city

This campground is just across the river from East Park, a very large part in Mason city. The river flows through the park and there are several, maybe 5 playgrounds in the park. The campground is also next door to the city pool.
