We pulled in, and pulled right back out. They advertise low rates and it was right off the interstate so we figured we would stop for the night. Nope. This place is sketchy as all can be. It had a fee campers parked, a couple really old run down units up on blocks like they were permanent campers/living there. Even a person staying inside a cargo trailer. Lots of trash all around every site, it was 1 road in, and 1 road out. we seen 1 dumper for the whole campground. Definitely a small place. And maybe, had it not been night time, I could have talked to someone and checked it out. But we just didnt feel safe.
Absolutely love Fair harbor! The staff is great, they have a little store that sells amenities and lots of basic camping gear. Have 24 hour laundry, multiple showers with amazing water pressure, and multi stall and private bath houses including handicap access. A private [stocked] lake that toured welcome to fish, without needing a license. They have lots of permanent campers here, who pay their lot rent and have their own electric meter. In a standard RV site all amenities are included, water hookup, sewer, electric with 110, 30 and 50 amp hookups, cable and wifi! As well as little cabins for rent. Also horse stables and storage if you stay longer!
This campground is just across the river from East Park, a very large part in Mason city. The river flows through the park and there are several, maybe 5 playgrounds in the park. The campground is also next door to the city pool.
This camp ground is smack dab in the middle of town. But once you're inside the campground surrounded by others it's hard to tell. You do hear quite a bit of traffic but depending on where your site is, you may not see it. I was disappointed when after years and years we were told we can no longer have a tent on your site with your camper. We would have to have our family members camp in a different part of the park.
Loved Kent park for camping. They currently have their lake drained. Estimated to be filled some time summer 2019, unknown If they will stock fish. There are so many camp sites it's nice to not have rowdy neighbors right on top of you. The park is huge and you could easily get lost. Only downfall is the gates are locked at 10pm so if you needed to come or go, you're stuck.
I absolutely loved this state park. There is so many options for fishing and camping. They even have cabin rentals for the more glamping lifestyle. They do book up quick in advance, but there is usually walk up spots available the week of too. Definitely reccomend.
