      Camp Atterbury Campground

      Outstanding

Mark & Denise are great camp hosts they care about everyone and will help them if they need it. They do so much for the holidays and have some great times together around the campfires. Will miss them this winter but will be thinking of them during the Army Navy game. (A inside joke lol).

Friends O' Mine Campground & Cabins

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our First RV Home Has Been Such a Blessing!

My husband and I absolutely loved our first few months here at Friends O' Mine Campgrounds & Cabins as first-time RV owners with our Class A RV.

We downsized from our 5-bedroom home in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri. We sold our home and I followed my Husband back here to Indiana after he received a wonderful career opportunity. My Husband is a Veteran, 🇺🇸 and after moving to Nashville, Indiana, we had immediately fallen in love with this small town - where we respected and admired the way Nashville reminds us of where we had just moved from in Missouri.

We stayed at Grand Wood Suites for six months, after paying for a hotel, all while continuously paying for our two large storage units, as well as our mortgage payment and then rent for most of the beginning of this year; so, we decided to downsize to save money to buy land sooner, instead of continuing to rent. 🏕️ We already loved camping - we started with a pop-up camper on the 🔝 of our Jeep and camped dozens of times, then traded up to a pop-up camper. So we used what we had in savings, bought our Class A RV, donated our pop-up camper, and came to Friends O' Mine - and it was the best decision!

From day one, the other campers have been so friendly, as are the nice employees and amazing owners. They truly make you feel like family. They set up weekly entertainment that brings the whole campground together around the campfire - there is a huge fire in the middle with six porch swings attached to a massive gazebo and veranda surrounding it. It's incredibly cozy and just inviting you to join in.

We've enjoyed live musical singers entertaining us around the campfire all evening, and we were invited to watch a documentary about a local racecar driver in their indoor recreational room, right next to the indoor laundry facilities.

There is also a subterranean pool that my Husband and I enjoyed swimming in almost every day during our first month here - it was very relaxing and refreshing!

One of our favorite parts has been our peaceful, nighttime walks around the large, well-stocked catch-and-release pond. My Husband and I hold hands together and walk around it at sunset almost every evening. It's so serene and calming to hear the sounds of the water and feel the beautiful Autumn breeze.

This has been a very relaxing, enjoyable, and heartwarming experience for us. If you are looking for a clean, friendly, peaceful, and welcoming place to stay - whether for a weekend or for a season - we cannot recommend Friends O' Mine Campgrounds & Cabins enough. We are so grateful we found it!

      Camp Atterbury Campground

Host is great, park is nice, MWR needs help

Great place to stay. Full hook ups, about 90 percent level sites. 33 RV sites and 3 or 4 primitive camp sites. The main bathhouse is pretty clean, included laundry, and a great host and hostess (Mark and Denise). The only bad is the price hikes here. One would think MWR would throw money towards some things...like a dog park, some leveling, lights at the kids playground, and MWR sponsored and paid for holiday parties/outings for vets, retirees, and all the active here on base. But nope, just collecting revenue without any beanies. Anyway, the host keeps it grounded.

      White River Campground

      Amazing campground

We made last minute reservations, for tent camping, the staff was so nice. She even brought fire wood to us after they closed the store. They have all amenities. The shower were nice and clean (the water was a bit smelly). The sight comes with outlets and water faucets. There’s a lake right near the sight that u can go into, but that causes a lot of flies to come.

Sugar Creek Campground and Canoe Rental LLC

It was good for a while

Had a great annual relationship with this campground. When we first started going they did not have their canoes and kayaks service. We had our our own so no big deal. They let us put in and take out. Then they started their livery service. They were hesitant about letting us use they put in and take out spot but since we would help with some of the chores around the campground we built a good relationship with the owners. They once said "you are the only ones we allow to do this" thought that we were sort of grandfathered in at that point. 20 years later....they must have forgotten their words and we were told since we took out our canoes at there site we were not allowed to come back ever again. You word goes a long way in my book and it evidently got forgotten or they just got mean.

      White River Campground

      Beautiful and Relaxing!

We traveled from Tennessee for a concert in Indianapolis (about a 40-minute drive) and absolutely loved this campground! The sites are paved, level, and offer plenty of yard space, with many located right along the river.

It’s right at the entrance to a scenic walking trail, and they even offer electric bike rentals to explore the area. The campground store is one of the nicest we’ve seen, and the bathrooms are clean and well maintained. There’s also a new, modern playground.

Wi-Fi is available, and we had solid cell service with 3 bars on US Cellular and T-Mobile. If we lived closer, we’d definitely be back!

Winter season is over middle of April, and we were here April 3rd. Water was turned off at the sites, but they had a spot to fill up your holding tank.

      Full hook-ups!

    Guide to Indianapolis

Near Indianapolis, glamping accommodations including yurts provide convenient access to both city attractions and natural settings. Camping options range from primitive sites in state forests to full-hookup RV sites with modern amenities. Several campgrounds offer water activities including fishing, boating, and swimming while maintaining proximity to urban conveniences.

    What to do

River activities: At Hidden Paradise Campground, visitors can enjoy fishing and floating on Flat Rock River. "Our son fished and we watched random people float down river. It was perfect for overnight stay passing through," notes Carolyn M., who appreciates the riverside location.

Hiking trails: Morgan-Monroe State Forest offers extensive trail systems for hiking enthusiasts. A camper reports, "There are a lot of trails to hike, 2 of them are over 10 miles (lower gap and three lakes). The Tecumseh trail (40 miles) starts in Morgan Monroe State Forest passes through Yellowwood State Forest and ends in the Hoosier national Forest."

Water recreation: Lake activities are popular at several campgrounds. Guests at Mystic Waters Campground enjoy summer water recreation. "The lake at the campground is great to float around in on a hot summer day," shares Christopher N., highlighting the relaxing atmosphere.

Urban exploration: Campgrounds near Indianapolis serve as convenient bases for city visits. Tom O. notes that Indianapolis KOA provides "20 minutes to downtown attractions," making it an efficient home base for exploring urban amenities.

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Campers frequently mention cleanliness as a priority. At White River Campground, Anthony C. appreciates that "White river campground is not a huge place, but it is always clean and very friendly staff. It's a great place to just go and relax and enjoy nature."

Spacious sites: Room to spread out ranks high on camper preferences. "The sites are spacious, the water, sewer, and electric are good. All sites are paved, grounds are great to walk, campground people are nice," explains Kristen S. about White River Campground.

Proximity to nature: Natural features adjacent to camping areas receive positive feedback. Shane H. appreciates White River Campground's "Great spots up against the river and very clean park," highlighting the appeal of riverside camping.

Yurt camping options: For campers seeking alternative accommodations, yurt camping near Indianapolis provides shelter with proximity to trails. Morgan-Monroe State Forest includes yurt options among its accommodation types, offering a middle ground between tent camping and cabin rentals.

    What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Most campgrounds near Indianapolis operate seasonally, with limited winter availability. Indianapolis KOA runs from "March 1 to November 15," making advance planning essential for shoulder season visits.

Reservation requirements: Popular campgrounds fill quickly, especially on weekends. A White River Campground visitor advises, "Fills up fast, so make your reservation. It's small but one of my favorites."

Noise factors: Some campgrounds experience noise from nearby highways or facilities. At Camp Atterbury Campground, Jeff G. notes, "If you don't mind gunfire 24/7 this is the best place ever," referring to the military training facility nearby.

Variable pricing: Costs vary significantly between basic and premium sites. Lindsay K. observes that Hidden Paradise Campground was "$48 per night. More expensive than any other campground we have been to in more than 12 states."

    Tips for camping with families

Water features: Campgrounds with swimming areas provide built-in entertainment. At Indianapolis KOA, Megan T. notes, "The splash pad / water park was fun, but was not a pool. It only goes to 3 feet so if you want to swim this is not for you. The water was cold but my kiddos finally got in and had fun on the slides."

Playground access: Dedicated play areas keep children occupied between other activities. A reviewer appreciates that Indianapolis KOA offers "a very nice playground and wading pool area. So if you have younger children, ideal for you."

Annual traditions: Many families return to favorite campgrounds yearly. Angela H. shares about Hidden Paradise Campground: "We love this campground so much that we return every year! Great riverside sites. We take our own rafts and kayaks, although both are available for rent/purchase at the camp store. Our boys & friends spend most of their time in the river."

Safety considerations: Supervised water areas provide peace of mind. Kimberly W. highlights Hidden Paradise's "quarry full to swim with an aqua playground, with use of free life preservers."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: Not all campgrounds accommodate larger RVs. At Morgan-Monroe State Forest, Ron H. advises, "We are RV campers and there are only about 5 sites we could get in to. Our camper is about 25' and it was tight get in and out of the campground. If you have a small camper (15' or smaller) there would more sites."

Leveling needs: Site terrain varies across campgrounds. At Heartland Resort, Gary B. notes, "The power and water pressure was just fine. The campsite was muddy and needed maintenance."

Hookup availability: Full-service sites provide convenience for extended stays. Shannon C. appreciates Hidden Paradise Campground's "Full hook-ups! River front sites," which allow for comfortable longer stays.

Proximity to services: Location relative to supplies matters for extended trips. Mary T. appreciates Indianapolis KOA's amenities: "Very large KOA. They have all different types of sites. Pull through back in. Super deluxe, deluxe, full hook ups etc."
