Cozy cabin cured my camping craving!

The adorable cabin fulfilled my tiny home dreams and camping craving! The cozy cabin had a queen bed, twin bunks and a sofa that made out to a full size sleeper. Kitchen included a fridge, sink and single cup coffee maker. Coffee k cups were provided in a few different varieties as well as sugar and creamer packs. Bathroom had tub/shower, clothesline to dry swim suits or hand-washed clothes, toilet, sand sink vanity. Bedding and towels were provided and were crisp, clean white. WiFi was a bonus and although it wasn’t the fastest it was very useful when looking up nearby activities. Our cabin had a grill, an outdoor table with four chairs, a swing and a fire pit which we enjoyed our last night there. Staff was friendly and helpful. There were laundry facilities within the park and lots of activities but we didn’t take advantage of any of that during our brief stay. Overall, we were very pleased and would gladly stay again!

    Winton Woods Campground

Love this campground for a weekend rendezvous!

Winton Woods campground has spacious paved RV spaces with full hook-ups, fire ring, and picnic table. They also have cabin and tent camping. The location is located on the lake with access to put in a kayak or canoe. The bathrooms are clean, with private combined shower/dressing stalls. There is a playground for children, and a camp store that sells firewood and supplies. I love the tall pines on the property. They made me feel like I was out west. The campground is also near paved and unpaved trails in the park that surround more of the lake which allows for walking/running/hiking and bicycling, fishing, small craft boating, with small craft boat rentals available at the marina. The park also allows for horseback riding, and a small water park for children in the summer.

    Winton Woods Campground

Great county park in a beautiful setting!

This is a great county park! It has a nice “campground” feel set in a large pine trees and wide sites but has 50-amp full hook-up sites. The campground is set in Winton Woods County Park which is about 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati.

There are 123 campsites including RV sites, tent pads, and camping cabins. Most RV sites are back-in but there are 12 pull-thru sites. There is a myriad of sites here from 50-amp full hook-up with paved pads and patios to 30-amp gravel sites. Sites have fire pits, picnic tables. Campsites in the front section (1F – 25F and 1R – 12R) are big rig-friendly with paved roads wide enough to easily maneuver. All utilities worked accordingly and were well-placed in the site. Our 4G Verizon phone got good reception and we were able to get plenty of antenna television channels. The online reservation system is easy to use and gives you an array of sites/cabins to choose from. Be aware that lots of people use this park on the weekends so it can get quiet busy.

There are lots of amenities at this park. Within walking distance of the campground is Winton Woods Lake which has a harbor with boathouse, snack bar, boat rentals and playgrounds. There are miles of paved and rustic hiking trails. There is a camp store, dump station, laundry, restrooms/shower house, boat/kayak launch, and fishing access. Located in the park is a golf course and horseback riding center.

You are within a few miles of everything … grocery, gas/diesel, restaurants, and plenty of shopping. The park is close to I-275 and I-75 making for easy access to major interstates. One place you should not miss is Jungle Jims international grocery and market. This totally eclectic, sprawling "grocery store" has so much to offer. They pride themselves on providing unique foods from all over the world. I could spend hours in this store perusing the isles of which are sectioned off into country and region. There are entire sections on Indian foods, wines, cheeses that you have never heard of, and tanks with live fish ready for the filleting. Also within close proximity is Greaters -one of the country's best ice cream shops (according to Food and Wine). Just down the street is a new person favorite sandwich shop called Izzy's which is famous for their corned beef and delicious potato pancakes.

Loved this park because you have a very nice campsite with 50-amp full hook-up site with lots to do in the area. Our site was level and the roads were easy to navigate in our motorhome. The paved trail around the lake was great for walking/jogging and perfect for launching our kayaks.

We would definitely stay here again.

    Dayton KOA Holiday

Beautiful setting, lots of trees and a steam that runs through it.

We stayed in a small cabin with a swing on the porch but there are many lodging choices. A stream ran behind the cabin. It has a pool and lots of kids activities. Gravel roads aren’t great for small kids learning to ride bikes but ok for older kids and adults.

    Dayton KOA Holiday

    Nice KOA

A nice KOA, with fire pit areas and picnic areas. Each state has a picnic table and the gravel site that we had was level. There is a group yurt for rent a nice little store, and quite a few cabins as well as gazebos and other gathering areas. Wi-fi is horrible even with a booster and sketchy over the air channels.

    Really Well Done

There are cabins, campsites in trees, campsites that aren’t. There’s a nice Mixture of available sites. All the employees are very nice and helpful. They really work hard to maintain the site. The pool is nice. There is a nice play area for kids. They have a short path in the woods which is a nice little loop. Great location with lots to do!

    Florence, IN…Nice campground

Park is well maintained. Nice sized pool and very clean pool area. Park has a playground and dog park. Lots of space between campers with cement patio, fire pit and picnic table and lots of trees. We had no issue pulling in our 42’ 5th wheel. We came in after hours and our name with sits number was posted on the door and plenty of maps for the park. Nice layout! You could barely hear a train off in the distance which sounded cozy. Campground is about 30 min from Madison and Ohio River is across the street. Only con- trash cans are like in a whole different country and hard to get too. Would stay again!!!!!

Guide to Brookville

Camping cabins near Brookville, Indiana offer convenient access to the 5,260-acre Brookville Lake and surrounding natural areas with elevations ranging from 748 to 780 feet above sea level. The area experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F, making it ideal for water activities. Cabin options range from basic rustic structures to fully-equipped rental units throughout the region.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Whitewater Memorial State Park Campground, visitors can access prime fishing spots on both Brookville and Whitewater lakes. "Awesome fishing lake with tons of good spots to fish. We love spending our weekends here," shares Kimberly A. The park connects directly to water access points for both lakes.

Kayaking excursions: Whitewater Memorial State Park Campground offers direct lake access for paddlers. "Whitewater Memorial State Park is located close to Liberty Indiana and is our favorite between the two major parks on Brookville Lake. It has water access to both Brookville and Whitewater lakes... Many fishermen and kayakers frequent the lake trails," notes Brandie B.

Hiking trails: The park system features multiple trail difficulties. "Watch out for the 🦝 raccoons they are pretty aggressive and were all over our campsite. Clearly they are used to getting handouts, so keep your foodstuffs in your vehicle or well secured," advises John F. about hiking at Whitewater Memorial.

What campers like

Waterfront sites: At Hidden Paradise Campground, riverside camping spots allow for immediate water access. "We love this campground so much that we return every year! Great riverside sites. We take our own rafts and kayaks, although both are available for rent/purchase at the camp store," says Angela H.

Swimming quarry: Hidden Paradise features a unique swimming area. "What is the best of the best for all in the family? A quarry full to swim with an aqua playground, with use of free life preservers, a creek to kayak or float and a clean campground! Life is good," writes Kimberly W.

Seasonal activities: Versailles State Park Campground operates year-round with activities changing with the seasons. "Went in October, but did not write review until December. Great place and want to come back in the summer to enjoy the lake and pool. We had a nice level, shaded campground," explains Burns G.

What you should know

Site selection: Some campgrounds have significant variability between sites. "Very nice campground and park. Well set up. Easy to get around. Clean restrooms and showers. Nice lake to kayak on. Beautiful covered bridge. Town is not far away if you need groceries," notes Michael W. about Versailles State Park.

Accessibility considerations: Governor Bebb MetroPark Campground offers a more primitive cabin experience. "Basic car tent camping at several spots along a creek with picnic tables and fire rings (no hookups, portolet toilets, no showers.) There is a rustic scout cabin/group lodge reservable for scout, etc. groups," explains John M.

Seasonal restrictions: Some cabin availability changes with seasons. "This is a nice county park that is being upgraded. There is a fairly new playground near the camping areas, a new pit toilet building, and a bridge leading to where a new trail system is being created," reports Bryce W. about Governor Bebb MetroPark.

Tips for camping with families

Activities for children: Moccasin Meadow provides family-friendly amenities. "This campground is just 12 miles west of Greensburg, IN off I-74, and sits just outside of Lake Santee. The owners are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. Grounds are always kept clean. Bathroom and shower house available, Playground, Pond to fish from," shares Brandi M.

Safety considerations: Supervise children around water areas. "Conveniently located just South of Liberty, Indiana. Access to the Brookville Lake. Playground available. Beach area available. Easy to reserve through the In.gov website. Many things to do," advises Mark S. about Whitewater Memorial.

Cabin selection for groups: Cabin options vary widely in size and capacity. "The campground also has fabulous cabins at a reasonable price. Our friends without campers join us in the cabins. All together there were 50+ in our party this year & a good time was had by all!" notes Angela H. about Hidden Paradise Campground.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Winton Woods Campground has varying site conditions. "We stayed at an electric only spot nestled in the trees by the lake. I was the only RV in this section all week and it was so peaceful and private. There is a fire ring, a picnic table and an oversized gravel spot with plenty of trees to hang my hammock from," reports Tamar.

Utility hookups: Cabin rentals often have different utility configurations than RV sites. "There are spots available from primitive tent sites, to full hookup (when available). Grounds are always kept clean. Bathroom and shower house available," mentions Brandi M. about Moccasin Meadow.

Site access: Some roads into cabin areas have limitations. "We came in at 10 pm in search for our site. It's about a 1/2 mile from the main road. It's a big place we noticed at daylight. Sites are large and easy to maneuver our 42' 5th wheel. Our site had full hookup, flat ground so easy setup," shares Douglas T. about Hidden Paradise Campground.
