Loved the Hike-in Sites

We came on Memorial Day weekend so the campground was very full. It didn't feel too crowded though except when playing on the playground there were lots of kids and its not a very big play area. But it was fun for the kids to play with other kids.

While I wish the tent are and comfort station…

  • Quick look at our campsite. Ours was definitely the biggest site with the most distance between our site and others. Ours was also the only one with the concrete pad area. And it was the closest to the tent parking area. There are 10 tent sites along the trail and they each get progressively further from the parking area.
  • Our campsite. Only thing I didn't like was the placement of the fire pit. It was right by the trail going to the other campsites so it was hard to get that secluded/privacy feeling when around the campfire. Also instead of having a grill on the campfire. There was a separate camping grill at the site.

It’s the state fairgrounds

Overall a good place to stop for a day or two. One row of full hookups, like a parking lot layout. Not much space between campers however if you don’t need full hookups lots of elec only spots. Two large parking lots for RVs and lots of grass spots. Visited in April, the only crowed area was the…

Fantastic backcountry sites

Short walk from the parking lot if carrying heavy gear, but still spaced out enough to feel isolated. Vault toilets right at the parking lot as well. Next to a big grassy area and hill for group games

Loved camping here

I camped here in a tent before we had an rv. The primitive sites were perfectly quiet and away from others. Toilet was close and so was parking. I kind of miss tent camping!!!

Home!!!

We have a permanent lake lot here. The marina is small and basic. Actually everything is basic here but it's still great to have 10 minutes from home.

Beautiful park

Had a nice site on loop by the lake, but not on the lake. A short walk downhill though the trees. We were able to tie up our canoe there once we launched it by the concession stand. Facilities were clean and fairly spacious. The trails were lovely but the best part was watching the hummingbirds…

Loved it!

We rented two cabins for the weekend and loved the place. Cabins were modern and clean overlooking the pond. They offer kayaks, canoes, and peddle boats free to campers. There is an open cabin with games, books, and WiFi. Basketball court, play area, and outdoor games. Staff were friendly and…

A sandy forest that is less visited with backcountry sites

This review is for the backpacking campsites within the Sand Ridge forest. The trail is a mix of sand and soil. It’s quite an unexpected discovery in Illinois. We didn’t see anyone else on the trail but we saw cars parked so hikers were out there.

We stopped at 2 different campsites. They are…

  • Trails varied from wide to narrow. There are a few posts directing you but we referred to the paper map quite a bit.
  • One of the small backcountry sites you can backpack to

Nice place!

Quiet, well-spaced campground with nice concrete fire rings & picnic tables. There are only a few pull-through sites and there are several spots with size limitations for campers. The park has beautiful natural meadows, an old schoolhouse to explore, and a large pond with trails all the way…

Was a nice stay

Have camped here a few times and have walked the trails for years. I camped at the primitive sites my first time. The sites were clean and fairly well maintained for primitive. Picnic table and fire pit were in good shape. Plenty of shade! Camp host were very nice and helpful. Non flushable…

Great family campground

Lots are spacious & grounds are well kept. Restrooms were clean. Lots of trails, Lake Sangchris is very close by for fishing & kayaking. Quiet campground; great place to unwind.

Great family friendly campground

Great place to stay and feel part of the community.  Pretty scenery to walk around.  Plenty of lakes/ponds to fish.  We couldn't boat while there due to COVID but look forward to going back and taking our kayaks.  Attentive and Friendly camp hosts. Pet friendly. Close to town if you've forgotten…
