Joliet and Marseilles provide several established RV parks with full hookup options. Hollywood Casino Hotel & RV Resort in Joliet offers 10 back-in RV slots with water, electric, and sewer connections along with WiFi access and pristine shower facilities. "Clean campsite, clean showers & bathrooms!" noted one visitor about this location. Tameling Campground and RV Park provides big-rig friendly sites with water, electric, and sewer hookups, while Glenwood RV Resort in Marseilles accommodates larger motorhomes with 50-amp service and full hookups. Most parks maintain year-round operations, though some have limited water availability during winter months, with Hollywood Casino noting no water service before April 15.

Advance reservations are strongly recommended for weekend stays, particularly during summer months when availability becomes limited. Sites at Love's RV Hookup in Morris include convenient amenities for overnight travelers with 30/50-amp electric options and accessible dump stations. Cell service varies throughout the region, with stronger connections reported at locations closer to major highways. Pet-friendly policies exist at most parks, including Hollywood Casino and Tameling Campground, though specific restrictions may apply. A recent review noted that Love's RV Hookup offers "easy on- and off-access" from Interstate 80, making it particularly suitable for travelers passing through the region who need overnight accommodations without complex navigation challenges.

Chippewa Campground — Kankakee River State Park

Heading Southwest for the winter. My first leg is at Chippewa Campground at Kankakee River State Park in Illinois. No hookups is $8 p/ night for a nice, large site with clean vault toilets, a dump station (free for campers), and potable water. They have walking and bike riding trails in the forest and along the river. It's a bit off the beaten path, and along a major road so there's a bit of noise if you're near the entrance, but the scenery is beautiful. Electric sites run around $20-25. The host is doing a great job keeping things clean and is nice and polite.

      Blackwell Family Campground

      Great Stay

Blackwell has clean bathrooms, offers hiking trails, boating (kayak rentals) or bring your own, fishing, archery, cycling. The gate locks at 7pm but you just call the night guard and he will let you in. They’re only open on Friday, Saturday and holidays. Would definitely stay again. Be aware Winfield Road has a lot of traffic so sites further away from that road are best. Heard coyotes about 3 am both mornings. Rangers were exceptional.

      Rolling Oaks Campground

Old-School Camping with a Whole Lot of Personality

Rolling Oaks is one of those wonderfully old-school Midwestern campgrounds that feels less like an RV resort and more like a little summer community that has been evolving for generations out here in the rich corn patches of central IL. Family-run since 1969, the sprawling, shady property sits along the Fox River with its very own lake and a decidedly RV-centric personality, where curb appeal is just as important (if not more) than the actual mobile confines people are living in. A substantial portion of the campground is occupied by long-term and seasonal residents, complete with patios, sheds and occasionally elaborate outdoor entertaining spaces, which gives Rolling Oaks an unusual neighborhood feel rather than the transient atmosphere of most CGs.

While my earlier review goes into considerably more detail, I thought I’d revisit this campground with a quick topline of HIGHS and LOWS along with a fresh batch of photos.

HIGHLIGHTS: (1) Water is the star here, with a swimming lake, pool and direct access to the Fox River making this particularly appealing if you bring kayaks, canoes or tubes; (2) Plenty of shade and a mixture of full-hookup, partial-hookup and pull-through RV sites plus tent camping accommodate just about every style of camper; (3) Playgrounds, volleyball, horseshoes and a game room give kids plenty to do without leaving the property; (4) Summer weekends have an almost throwback campground-community atmosphere with dancing, cart rides, farmers’ markets, spaghetti dinners, corn boils and pig roasts; and (5) Being only a few miles from the village of Sandwich makes supplies easy while putting you in prime position for the enormously popular Sandwich Fair (if you manage to time your stay here to coincide with this annual attraction).

LOWLIGHTS: (1) The large population of seasonal and long-term campers means portions of Rolling Oaks can feel more like a permanent RV neighborhood than a campground; (2) All that community activity means summer weekends aren't exactly designed for campers seeking solitude and P&Q; and (3) The CGs sprawling layout means the experience can vary considerably depending upon where you land with front sections feel busier and more transient, while areas farther back become increasingly more residential.

Insider’s Tip: For the best balance of scenery, shade and quiet, head toward the far side of the lake, away from the busiest weekend activity. And if you're thinking of bringing a kayak or canoe, definitely bring it as direct Fox River access is one of Rolling Oaks' biggest advantages.

      Happy Camping!

      Nature’s Way RV Park

Quiet spot that was perfect for a getaway

Took my daughter for the weekend. Camp host were wonderful and even worked with us when I arrived later then planned. Full hookup was perfect and location was great.

Location is close to Utica so we were able to enjoy the local shops and restaurants.

Wonderful spot and we will definitely be back.

      Love's RV Hookup-Hampshire IL 763

      Cross country travelers

Last minute online reservation...They only have. 4 or 5 RV sites...full hook ups...about $60+-...right near gas pumps but any noise did not bother us weary travelers...Only downside was showers were not included....For the price certainly an included shower should be part of the deal...easy check in and check out.,..We used the Love's site due to its location to visit family and the fact that electric was available...We have medical equipment that requires a recharge at night plus it's just nice to have the AC if needed.

      Escape to Nature

      Simply Lovely

We had a truly enjoyable stay and would’ve stayed an extra day if our travel schedule would’ve allowed. David was a wonderful host. Greeted us with a smile and escorted us to our site. We had our choice of 2 spots, both lovely. Picnic table and plenty of FREE firewood to keep us cozy. Wild turkeys roamed the grounds as well as the friendly ducks. All in all, a very peaceful evening and a special place.

Teal Bay Campground - Shabbona Lake State Recreation Area

The Family-Friendly Heart of Shabbona Lake

Canvasback Cove quickly felt like the liveliest corner of Shabbona Lake State Park, and it's EZ to see why so many families gravitate here. While one of three campgrounds within the park, Canvasback Cove sits closest to the playground, camp store, boat launch, fishing pond and lakeshore, making it wonderfully convenient for families with younger children who love having something to explore just a short walk from their campsite. The campsites offer electric and water hookups, picnic tables and fire rings, while the surrounding prairie, woodlands and sparkling lake create a peaceful backdrop that somehow balances activity with nature. One of my favorite memories was watching children race from the playground to the fishing pond with fishing poles nearly as tall as they were before proudly returning to camp to tell everyone about 'the one that almost got away.' Some campgrounds are designed around campsites; this one feels designed around childhood. From what we saw, lakefront Sites 117 and 125 are especially desirable thanks to their beautiful water views, while families wanting to stay close to the playground, camp store and boat launch will appreciate the heart of Canvasback Cove. We would absolutely recommend this campground for families because of its kid-friendly layout, outstanding park amenities and the countless opportunities to spend the day outdoors together.

Potowatomi Campground — Kankakee River State Park

      Great experience

Nice, clean, quiet, simple state park set up. Many miles of paved and crushed limestone trails. The actual Kankakee River access is sort of outside of the campground- that would be my only complaint. You have to walk or bike a little distance to be near the river. Seemed very well maintained and we loved it!

      Love's RV Hookup-Morris IL 859

      Rating for what it is

This is not a campground but if you need an overnight quick stop this was great! Rating as a truck stop/overnight and not campground rating

We pulled in around 10pm, easily backed in with no obstacles, hook ups were all easy and convienent and we were on I80 again before 7

You check in online once your there and process was great

It is a travel stop so there are bright lights and truck noise - but we were tired and had no issues sleeping through night!

The staff were very kind, bathrooms inside were clean

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lake access at Sycamore RV Resort offers stocked ponds where campers can enjoy catch-and-release fishing. "Very nice grounds that are quiet. 10 minute drive to town. 20 minutes from Dekalb," notes a visitor at Sycamore RV Resort, which maintains fishing ponds that remain accessible even during drought conditions.

Hiking excursions: State parks within 20 minutes of Nature's Way RV Park provide excellent trail systems. "Just 5 minutes to Starved Rock state park and one mile from interstate 80. Great country setting with full hook ups," a camper reports. The nearby Starved Rock State Park features more than 13 miles of trails, while Matthiessen State Park offers "5-6 of fairly decent challenging, but completely isolated, non-touristy-laden trails."

Water recreation: Swimming areas at multiple campgrounds supplement river access. "There's a huge lake with paved paths that we were able to walk the first night (not raining) and the beach looks like it will be fun to enjoy in the summer," mentions a camper who stayed at Lehmans Lakeside RV Resort. Several campgrounds maintain swimming pools or beach areas for summer recreation.

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathhouses consistently receive positive comments from campers staying at rv sites near Romeoville, Illinois. A recent visitor to Fox Bluff CottageS & RV praised "the new pool, the game room, the playground, the beautiful new bath house and the grounds are just wonderful." Attention to cleanliness extends to shower facilities at multiple campgrounds.

Spacious sites: Full-hookup options with adequate spacing between sites are available at several campgrounds. "We stayed at a back in site, easy access and site had plenty of room on each side," noted a camper at Sycamore RV Resort, which offers spacious sites despite its proximity to urban areas.

Seasonal events: Halloween celebrations draw large crowds to certain campgrounds. "They do an extremely large Halloween event Columbus Day weekend. Jam packed for this event. Awards for site decoration. Campsites set up haunted houses, candy for kids, drinks for adults," reported a visitor to Glenwood RV Resort, highlighting the community atmosphere that develops during special weekends.

    What you should know

Reservation requirements: Weekend bookings should be secured well in advance, particularly from Memorial Day through Labor Day. "Plan ahead! The location requires a 2 night stay minimum," advises a camper who visited Fox Bluff CottageS & RV.

Road conditions: Access roads to some campgrounds may present challenges. At Glenwood RV Resort, a camper noted "the long road in is very rough," though they "did make it okay with our big 5th wheel - no overhead branches etc."

Water quality considerations: Iron content in water supplies affects some campgrounds in the region. "The camp water is high in Iron. The pot roads need service as they do have a lot of pot holes," observed a long-term visitor at Lehmans Lakeside RV Resort, highlighting infrastructure concerns common at camping facilities near Romeoville.

    Tips for camping with families

Swimming amenities: Pool and beach facilities provide recreational opportunities for children. Tips from RVers

Big rig access: Length restrictions apply at some campgrounds near Romeoville. "While Glenwood sits on some 100+ acres with ample space for anyone hauling a 5th wheeler, driving an RV or wanting to pitch a tent, there's lots of grassy areas to set up camp just about anywhere you look," explains a reviewer who visited Glenwood RV Resort, noting the flexibility available even for larger rigs.

Seasonal water limitations: Winter camping requires awareness of frozen water line policies. A visitor to Hollywood Casino Hotel & RV Resort mentioned, "Not a bad spot. Average and relatively inexpensive," while noting the water restrictions that apply during colder months.

Highway noise: Proximity to interstates affects some rv camping options near Romeville. "The only down fall is the constant ambient sounds of highway traffic which is about 1/2 mile away from route 90," notes a camper who stayed at Lehmans Lakeside RV Resort, providing important context for those sensitive to noise.
