    Earl Park

    City park

This is a small town park. Sites all grass. Most are only 20 amp a few have 30 amp. No fire rings. Playground is huge. Sites have water, dump station on way out. $25 for campers $15 for tents. Honor system pay at Festival Office in center of park. Sites are first come first served. 30 amp sites in center fill up fast. 31ft toy hauler. AC ran fine off 20amp.

    Friends Creek Campground

    Secluded and Cozy

We stayed here during our travels from Kansas to Indiana. While we only stayed one night, it was long enough to know that should we travel nearby again-this will be our stopping point. Easy to access from the highway yet while in the park, we experienced pure bliss and quiet. Spacious sites and an abundant amount of shade made this stay even better! The camp hosts do an excellent job as the grounds and bathhouse were all immaculate! These are electric only sites however there are several water spigots to fill the tank prior to parking. For ease, there are even potable water spigots at the dump station and the bathhouse as well. Our site was fairly level and easy to maneuver into. For reference, we have a 34’ fifth wheel. When reserving, note that there are a handful of 50 amp sites, several 30 amp sites and tent sites available.

    Friends Creek Campground

    Nice rural camping

General: 40-site campground with three non-electric and the rest are either 30 or 50-amp electric. Several water spigots are sprinkled throughout the campground.

Site quality: All sites are gravel and level. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. The sites are spaced a decent amount of distance apart and with the many trees, it did not feel crowded, despite being almost full when we were there.

Bath/Shower: Very clean with soap, paper towels, and a shelf for toiletries. Did not use the shower but it looked clean as well.

Activities/Amenities: There are two well-marked and well-maintained trails plus a playground and basketball hoop. There is also a historic schoolhouse, and guided tours are available by calling. Before leaving the next morning, I enjoyed a walk on the two trails. There is a dump station and potable water.

The campground was almost completely full on a Friday at the end of October yet very quiet.

    Walnut Point State Park Campground

    Great family spot- relaxing

Stayed for 3 nights and loved it. Gave 4 stars instead of 5 because it was electric only. There are 4 total camp areas in the campground portion of the park. Grey Squirrel and Fox Squirrel are the RV sites and Grey and Fox Tent are the tent areas. Tents are allowed in the RV area as well. Each site has a gravel pad, grill/fire pit and picnic table, as well as electric hook up. There is one dump station near the campground entrance, and water fill there or in a few locations in the campground. There is not water and sewer hookup at each pad. Some spots have decks, but not all, and the handicap accessible spots are paved with concrete. All spots in Fox Squirrel are landlocked. In Grey Squirrel, odd numbered sites 15-25 back up to the lake. All the Grey Squirrel sites have trail access to several docks and a couple of boat launches. There are a few out house/bathrooms for each area. There is at least one communal shower house. There are playgrounds throughout the park and a concession building near the campground entrance. You have to get firewood at the concession building to burn in the park. You can also rent kayaks, purchase bait, get info, and buy snacks. The concessions has recently changed hands and is now run by the same company who handles Moraine View. Overall it’s a great little park. Nice hiking, lots of quiet fishing options. No swimming or motor boats. We will go back for sure!

    Prairie Pines Campground

    One Muddy Night Stay

    PROS

Able to reserve via Reserve America 135 days prior to arriving

Park staff very friendly and helpful

    Entry code for toilet/shower house

    Gravel site surrounded by grass

Aluminum picnic table on concret slab

Metal fire pit with cooking grate

Follow directions to park from their website as GPS misdirected

    Coin-operated laundromat in toilet/shower building

This is the mobile home park of the decommissioned Chanute Air Force Base repurposed as a campground and operated by the City of Rantoul, so where a mobile home was, it is now a campsite. Streets, sidewalks, curbs and street parking areas still exists. Because of that, all sites are pull-thrus from the perimeter road.

    CONS

    No senior discount

$3.50 reservation fee for self made online reservation

Rain saturated ground prohibited site pull in. Had to back up over a steep street curb into a non angled site.

Unable to get into originally selected campsite due to insufficient room to back into site, so moved to Site #13.

Street lights throughout campground WiFi available but wasn’t given log on password upon check in and office had closed for the day once we realized we didn’t get the log on password

    Prairie Pines Campground

    Pleasantly surprised

I was pleasantly surprised that this in town park didn't feel in town.

It's on the outskirts of town on the old Chanute AFB. They have lovely tree coverage, it's close to lots of amenities like grocery shopping, sports complex, urgent care, quick interstate access.

If you want to park and go adventure the area, ride the bike path, check out some of the surrounding towns or local shopping it's all right there but doesn't feel right there. Or you can set up and just relax for a long weekend.

Free delivery with purchase of firewood, and if you're not in the mood to cook dominoes delivers too!

Camping, glamping, rv life, you name it, your rig will be happy in this pull through park.

    Weldon Springs State Park Campground

    Nice place!

Quiet, well-spaced campground with nice concrete fire rings & picnic tables. There are only a few pull-through sites and there are several spots with size limitations for campers. The park has beautiful natural meadows, an old schoolhouse to explore, and a large pond with trails all the way around it. A WWII memorial is found along the pond and there are also boat rentals and plenty of good fishing spots. The park also has decent shower houses and more than one playground for the kids. Along the marina that have snacks/concessions as well.
