Roughly 10 miles northeast of the town of Challis, Little Bayhorse Campground sits within Challis National Forest on a road that requires careful navigation. The US Forest Service operates this lakeside facility from July through September, with a strict no-pets policy that sets it apart from most forest campgrounds.
Campsites maintain good spacing between sites and stay clean according to visitor reports. The adjacent lake provides fishing access and serves as a trailhead for hiking routes into the surrounding forest. Big Bayhorse sits less than a mile west for campers wanting backup options in this remote area.
Description
Beautiful high mountain lake with plenty of fishing. Hiking trail connects to Bayhorse Lake. Three primitive campsites are equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. There is a toilet within the campground, but no drinking water or garbage pick-up available on site. Road access is steep and narrow.
