Aquarius Campground

The sounds of Aquarius rapid provide a constant backdrop at this small Forest Service campground along the North Fork Clearwater River. Katherine B. notes the class III wave train "sent me to peaceful sleep." Sites sit directly beside the water, though high flows can make some spots inaccessible during peak runoff.

Individual and group sites accommodate both tents and RVs, though no hookups are available. The campground includes picnic tables and fire rings, with most sites fitting RVs despite the compact layout. Large rigs face challenges maneuvering if the campground fills up. Dense tree cover limits satellite internet connectivity, and the forested setting creates natural sound barriers from nearby traffic.

A small beach area provides river access for fishing, swimming, and relaxation. The North Fork Clearwater offers consistent angling opportunities, while hiking trails branch out from the campground into surrounding forest. Wildlife viewing includes occasional rattlesnake sightings at higher elevations. Campers can also explore nearby options like Isabella Landing Camp less than a mile upstream.

The no-pets policy keeps the campground quieter than many Forest Service sites. For additional camping choices in the broader region, see campsites near Clearwater National Forest. Access requires navigating forest roads that can become challenging in wet conditions.

Sounds of water

Small spots by Aquarius rapid. She’s a class III wave train and the sounds sent me to peaceful sleep. In high water some of the spots may be inaccessible, however there are other campgrounds nearby if it doesn’t work. Do not recommend large rigs in here, it would be hard to turn around if the campground is full, again better options up or down river.

Nice peaceful on the river

Nice place to camp on the river. Has a small beach area you can relax at. Starlink wouldn’t work great with the trees here.

Beautiful place in Clearwater Region

I saw a rattle snake here?!? I did not even know they could survive up here.

But he was no problem, he slithered of the trail as soon as he saw us.

There’s a few group cites and a handful of single family sites here.

On the other side of the river is thick tree lines with a gorgeous view. This area is very quiet and there’s some beach spots to hang out and get some sun with the family.

There’s a lot of nice areas to hike, water rafting and fishing activities. So there’s a bit of everything to satisfy whatever you are into.

Beach sites are very comfy

I really like beach sites especially for groups as it’s easier to find a comfy spot without a sleeping pad.

There is sandy areas which make this location ideal for kid and other fussy campers in terms of comfort.

It’s a great place to splash in the water for the family and your pup!

Great place for a group

A lot of opportunity for camping; single sites, group, even trailer or RV sites, but no hookups. Nice place for a family that may have different likes. Fishing and hiking and wildlife viewing. Hunting access in the fall.
