Chattahoochee Bend State Park Campground

We just bought our first RV and it was a 22 foot Class C. We decided to stay close to home to try it out, learn everything on it in a forgiving place. Chattahoochee Bend was perfect. Drive through spot for our RV with 50AMP, 30AMP, water and dump service. The place is clean, quiet and in great shape! Electric bikes made it all the more fun, since the single road in, out and all about is quite hilly. Plenty of hiking trails!

We loved this campground! Definitely one of our favorites. The campsites are spacious and private. The amenities are all close by and were super clean the entire time we were there. The playground is more geared toward older children, but it was very well taken care of.

Our campground hosts at the time (Dennis and Colleen) were so welcoming and friendly. They were always quick to offer a wave and friendly smile every time we saw them. Lisa, the maintenance host, was also fantastic! We enjoyed getting to know all 3 of them.

The hiking trails are all very clearly marked, and we enjoyed exploring during our time there.

The closest town is about a 45 min drive, but we didn’t mind at all. Just make sure to stock up before heading to the park.

We can’t wait to visit this park again. So far it is one of our favorites!

The primitive sites (for tents) were a bit close and not as private as I like. 

They offer platform camping and those sites seem a bit more secluded (and are in a separate area from the tent sites). 

There are 4 cabins available to reserve and they have great amenities (running water, electricity)

We looked at them once there and think next time we will do this with the kids. 

2 rangers live in the park full time and there is a large welcome center/ gift shop with basics for sale should you forget anything.

It was great, simple, easy and relaxing. Not too much to do but a great place to chill. RV spot are spread out nicely.

Not much to do but hike. You can kayak the Chattahoochee river if you are brave enough to deal with the pollution. Other than that, it’s a good place to relax if everyone doesn’t bring their massive barking dogs along. We found it very hard to enjoy all 3 times we went because of the dogs barking non stop.

Lots of great hiking. 2 playgrounds were open. Playgrounds are brand new or at least they look brand new. I am 225 lbs and I played on all the equipment with my daughter. The bathrooms were cleaner than my bathroom at home. The dogs loved the hiking and the river is beautiful with the fall colors. There are so many small trails that are shortcuts around this park. After 2 days, you will feel like a local getting around. There is ice at the visitor center along with snacks and souvenirs. I look forward to my next visit.

Really gorgeous park. Has a great 5 mile trail that is basically no elevation besides some small hills, that is right on the river. Even on hot days you catch a cool breeze off the river making it a nice, easy hike. Massive observation tower is very cool. Facilities are always clean and staff has always been friendly. Office does sell firewood and some gifts.

Not a bad walk, super up and down but not overly exhausting. Backcountry 21 is the best spot if you get to choose.

Chattahoochee Bend State Park is located on bend of the Chattahoochee River southeast of Atlanta, near Columbus GA. This is one of Georgia’s largest and newest state parks, with five miles of river frontage on the Chattahoochee. The campground has about 40 sites, some pull-they, but little shade. There are also some walk-in tent sites, and platform sites. The standard sites are water & electric, there is a bathroom/shower, and a dump station. There are cabins if you are not a camper. This is mostly a fishing/hiking park. A boat ramp provides access to the river for boaters and canoeing and there are six miles of wooded trails are open for hiking. There is an observation platform with views of the river and forest, but visibility was limited because of the trees. There isn’t much here but the river trail. But it is close to Columbus, GA, there are some zip-line places near by, and Roosevelt’s Little White House are close.

Nice park.

It’s nice, quiet, and secluded however, campsites are not on the river. Plenty of hiking and biking trails, nice restroom facilities/host lodge, playgrounds for kids. The main negative for us is the lack of cell phone coverage - husband works from home, so internet access is a must. T-Mobile and Verizon neither one worked throughout the park and when it did only had 1 or 2 bars, very flakey.

We loved our spot especially #103 in Campground 1, lots of privacy for our 21ft Lance TT. Backing in was not difficult even though we had to raise the right tire 3" to be level. Stayed just one night but got a short easy morning hike, found many mushroom varieties, but didn't pick them. Would stay again!

Chattahoochee Bend state park is located about 30 minutes west of Newnan, GA. It's located on the Chattahoochee river and is a surprisingly large area. The park has a number of trails for hiking and mountain biking. There are cabins and tent camping sites separate from the rv sites. Rv camping area has large, level gravel sites with water, 30/50 amp electric and cable. Two dump stations help eliminate waiting in long lines when you're ready to hit the road again. Bath house looks like new and is well cared for. On site host is keeping the place in tip top shape. We'll definitely be returning to this park. Highly recommended. Only negative - no cell service while we were there.

Platform sites are super nice. Short walk into the sites, right beside a river. Not much privacy between platforms but every time we have been it hasn't been full or crowded.

There are 14 miles of hiking trails, and a 3.5 miles water trail at the park. The trails are well-maintained, and easy to hike. 

The crushed slate on the campsites is a bit messy. When dry, everything is coated in black dust, and when wet, everything is coated in black mud. The sites are ample size, easy to back into, and are getting much more shaded now that the park is aging.

This park is secluded. It is a "dark park", so it is great for star-gazing.

nice new state park along the Chatahoochee River. walk in sites along the river are nice and quiet. 2 campground loops can get full on weekends in season but a pretty quiet place usually. they have just built cabins this year.

It was awesome. The trails are well marked and easy to follow. The river is beautiful and the overlook towers were a nice touch. Being able to lay in the hammock right next to the water was perfect. The campsites are flat and easy to get in and out of especially with large 5th wheel campers. The tent sites can be right up front or just off the beaten path. I really appreciate the choice. The picnic areas are perfect for the whole family and the boat ramp is well maintained. I will be a frequent visitor.

It’s a decent park. We camped on the raised platforms by the river. The other campgrounds are away from the river back in the woods. The tent sites are a bit too close together for my liking. The facilities are taken care of and kept up, but my idea of hiking is a bit more than just a walk through the woods- not a whole lot of elevation change on the trails, as you are not in the mountains. I would stay there again, though.

The tent campsites were nice and close to the river. Next time I go, I would like to try the platforms next to the river. Everything was clean and well kept. The trails needed some work.

Nice, quiet and clean! The kids love to come here. Lots of room to run around and play. Great for fishing! Prices are very reasonable too.

We had read good things about this park and were excited to go but the campground was dirty smelled like urine as did the beach.

Loved the platform camping. Right on the river and a short walk to the sites. Lots to do during the day.

it is an easy .25 mike walk in to th platforms that are on the chattahoochee river. there are a few trails that are easy and follow the river, along with a nice playground. nice visit!

everything looks nice and new. they have camping platforms for your tents. plenty of shade by the river. we love setting up our hammock's in the trees and just chilling listening to the river flow.

Not many camping spots for tents more for rv' s. Had nice trails but can't go fishing without a boat

Chattahoochee Bend State Park is just 16 miles northwest of Newnan, Ga. We camped in one of the many riverfront platforms at the end of May. We were under the impression that we would be waterfront, but couldn't really see the water from the riverfront platforms because of the trees and topography. The forest is very lush and quiet though. The hiking trails are easy with level elevation. Although we prefer hiking mountains with sweeping views the forest was so lush and beautiful that it made for a nice hike. We hiked the Riverside trail from the riverfront platforms through a parking lot, where there was also a nice playground for kids, then back into the woods to an observation tower. It's a great hike for families.

The bathrooms were very clean and are a short walk from the platform campsites.

Fireflies lit up our campsite at night! Overall we had a very pleasant experience camping here and definitely would return.

Very friendly ranger! Clean park with plenty of campsites. Clean restrooms with showers. Beautiful hiking trails, very wooded and shaded. We thought camping on the platforms near the river would give us access to the water but there is not really a beach that we found near the campsites.
