Sixty campsites spread across two loops provide ample spacing between neighbors at this state park campground east of Bradenton. Sites feature water and electric hookups, fire pits, and picnic tables, with natural vegetation creating privacy barriers that can stretch 40 to 50 yards between camping spots. Robert M. notes "Water/electric on all sites" with "showers and bathroom clean."
The campground maintains a notably quiet atmosphere most days, though weekend noise from nearby DeSoto Speedway reaches the sites. Race cars run from 8am to 11pm on event days, creating quarter-mile runs that some campers find disruptive while others enjoy the automotive entertainment. Highway 64 traffic provides occasional background noise, but natural sounds of crickets and frogs dominate evening hours.
Lake access sits within a 10-15 minute walk from any campsite, offering swimming areas with benches, boat launches, and fishing opportunities. The lake contains alligators and turtles, which visitors spot regularly from the shoreline. Hiking trails wind through the park's western section, suitable for walking or hybrid biking despite occasional sandy patches. A beach volleyball court and picnic areas complement the day-use facilities.
Bathhouses stay consistently clean throughout the day, and the ranger station sells firewood bundles for $5 or 50-gallon drums for $10. No full hookups or 50-amp service are available, and the park lacks on-site laundry facilities. Cell service works adequately for most carriers, though internet speeds run slow. Bug spray proves essential year-round, particularly during warmer months.
Campers seeking additional options can explore campgrounds near Lake Manatee State Park, including Bradenton / Hunsader Farms KOA 3.4 miles southeast. The spacious sites and lake access make this park well-suited for RV camping and tent camping alike.
