Bring LOTS of bug spray and no dogs allowed

The pros are it was an affordable campground and great staff on site.  The cons, prepare to get eaten alive by bugs.  These are the 'no-see-ums' you read about and the bugs are tiny, but their bites last weeks and cause a lot of discomfort.  If you have dogs, not the best option because they are not allowed, anywhere.  This is a small park, pretty beach, but didn't work for our stay.

Small, Clean, Privacy AND Some Views

Curry Hammock, Marathon, FL: Our favorite of the state parks in the Keys. (Though, I do hear that the new section at Bahia is spectacular.). Here, cleanliness, views and privacy are great.
(Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good

(70 yr olds in 17’ trailer. Our rating of a campground is influenced by the following: The general ambiance- sort of wilderness feel the campground gives us. A selection of campsites which offer some visual privacy and/or a view from sites. Cleanliness of whatever facilities are offered is important and usually noted in my review.

Overall Rating: 4.25 because of nice ocean views from some sites and vegetative barrier between most sites.
Price 2023: $36 in 2023 Security: Two gates w code for entry Usage during visit: Site Privacy: Most sites are pretty good. (Site 10 picnic area is the least private of all. See below.
Site Spacing: Close Site surface: Paved Reservations: Yes . Competitive . Campground Noise: Quiet Road Noise: Well off the highway. Through Traffic in campground: None Electric Hookup: Yes Sewer Hookup: Yes Dump Station: Yes Potable Water Available: At site Bathroom: Much pride must be taken in their cleanliness! Superb

  • Showers: Clean. Hot water heater must be some distance. Be patient.m as hot water is coming.

Pull Throughs: None Cell Service (AT&T): Varies from 1 to 3 bars. Setting: Along the shore with lots of low growing plants between sites. Recent Weather: Rain, wind and more of each. Unusual for this time of year. Solar: Yes Host: Two for this 28 site campground is pretty nice. They do a good job as this is such a clean campground all the way around. Rig Size: Probably all sites can handle a big rig. Sites: Ocean Side and most have a nice view of the ocean : 9,11,13,15,16,17, 19,21,22. Views are not always available from chairs or the picnic table due to low growing vegetation . Also, apparently these sites have a nice cooling breeze in the summer. Our view in # 11 had a great view. #1 is not super private due to line of site to the bathhouse. #10 is the least private picnic area of all. Most sites have nice vegetation in between. 10,12,14,18,20: Some or all of these sites can see the ocean from the front window of their RV.

Great for kayaking.

There is a nice easy loop you can kayak around and see beautiful views. It's a small park but worth a stop.

Great State Park

We stayed here for a week and loved it. The views of the water are great. Staff was outstanding. Bathrooms and showers were nice and clean. Park had good power but slightly low water pressure. Sites were very well maintained. Nice sandy Beach that is very shallow and calm. Great kayaking. Park has kayak and paddle board rentals. They also have bike rentals. We would most definitely return.

Scenic well maintained campground

Amazing place in Key West! Well maintained and clean Friendly helpful staff Water view

The only thing is that south coast is full of seaweed so that’s not the best place to swim. You can rent kayaks, lots of fun.

Cool Location on Outskirts of Marathon!

This state park is super well kept and the staff was very friendly.

Easy place to launch a kayak or paddleboard from the campground without having to relocate.

There are two paddle trails from the Campground. Ask the ranger about them when you check in.

There is also a surprisingly large sandy beach here. I had heard the Keys didn't really have beaches so I was pleasantly surprised.

Great restrooms with warm showers and super friendly neighbors.

Saw a manatee and a barracuda on the Mangrove Tunnel Paddle Loop!

Week in May

Temperature was wonderful. Didn't rain any. Bathhouse was cleaned daily by 2 separate camp hosts. Close to the park & beach. It is really not a play on the beach location, more a kayak ramp. Shallow water. No sewer, but a dump station. Hard to book. We booked 11 months ago.

Reservation issue at reserveamerica.com

Be careful reserving camping spot for this site. The administration asked us to leave our move to another site because they said the reservation was fraudulent, but I showed my receipt from reserveamerica.com and the bank statement that took the charges for the camping site and they allowed us to stay. They said they often have this kind of issues because fraud apps but we used the official website. But anyway the place is beautiful.

A beautiful Florida State Park

Curry Hammock State Park, located at mile marker 56, is just outside of Marathon in the Florida Keys on the Atlantic side of US 1. The park is compact, offering excellent gravel, well-leveled sites, and a super clean bath house.

The sites feel secluded because of the vegetation, but don’t expect much shade here. While there is beach access, it’s not much of a beach. Typical of the Florida Keys, it is rocky and weedy. It’s not Miami Beach.

Kayaking, SUP, and bicycling are the main recreational attractions. Kayaks and SUPs can be launched from a small sandy beach spot, where swimming is not allowed. Cyclists can access the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail, across US 1 from the park entrance. The asphalt paved path is safely segregated from traffic on the Overseas Highway, allowing access to Marathon.

Curry Hammock State Park is a gorgeous Florida Keys gem; however, that implies hot, muggy, and buggy conditions during the warmer months, which are mostly all year. If those conditions don’t suit you, I would suggest one of the RV resorts down the road a bit.

Clean campground

We stayed in site # 17 which was waterfront but you can't access the water from the site. There is a lot of bush between the water & the site so you walk down a little & take the path to the water. It was a little hotter being in the sun & having the wind blocked by the brush. Nice bath house & showers. The BEST sites are #7, 8, 9, 22, 23 & 20 which 20 is on the inside but a good view of the water.

The sunsets and sunrises are beautiful from the campground shoreline, you can have a bonfire down on the shoreline there is a pit and picnic tables there.

The recreation area has a lot of kite surfers and can be busy. It's nice to watch them sail around. There is a kayak launch near the beach and they rent Kayaks there too. It's a nice little area to bring a chair & sit in the water or fish from the kayak launch area. We did see a crocodile across from the launch near the beautiful private land & house. The park was aware of it and looking for it. There's a neat kayak trail through the Mangroves which is cool to do and you can kayak into the Atlantic out to the sandbar it's beautiful. We found a bunch of  derelict crab bouys in the mangroves we had fun collecting them.

Close by is the Keys Fishery raw bar with a good happy hour, La Ninas (good food). Robbies is a tourist trap but a good bar and a place to watch the tarpon be fed.

Who Wouldn't Love this place?

I love this place.  Good snorkeling, good camping, beautiful location.  We just loved it.  My only complaint is there were some kind of bugs at our camp site...  sand fleas?  Not sure, but we were itching all the way home.  Spray yourself with whatever prevents those things!

Set up for RV camping

Not a bad campground. The sites are gravel driveways that are set up great for RVs but not so great for tents. There are picnic tables and fire pits at the sites.

Beach side sites in the Keys

Great campground halfway down the Florida Keys. Nice showers and restrooms. Small campground, so pretty quiet. Secured gate at night. Kayak and paddle board rentals available. No clean swimming beach😟

Clean bathrooms, small park with lots of activities.

We camped at campsite #2 with our pop up camper. At first I was disappointed that we didn't get a site right next to the water until I walked over to that side of the camp ground and the smell of rotting sea grass was overwhelming. The beach smelled really bad when the wind blew a certain way. We rented kayaks and paddled out to a sand bar and swam there. We could kayak completely around the island because the sea grass was too thick on the mangrove side. The campsite is spotless. They take the gravel and groom the site after each camper leaves. Nice and clean shower area and the cleanest bathrooms around.
